Contacted my local dealer about an allotment and was told $5k deposit to get on the list.. went in and drove a couple, decided I wanted on.. the SA I did the test drive with told me only $2500 to get on the list. I hand him my credit card. He comes back, says I’m #2 on the list and they get their allotments in November. All is good and then he says “you know about the 10% markup, right?” I say “no and I won’t be paying it.” He tried to explain the market and I tell him we will see how it is in in November if I get an allotment. Not happy about the “by the way..” move that was pulled after charging my card.

10% in his pocket, I’m sure. Better to deal with sales manager directly.

Ugh! That's such a scummy move, not cool at all. I would avoid doing business with these guys, there's better dealers out there. I say that because I'm the OP here and I have decided to abandon the dealer that I first posted about and a few calls later I found a dealer that is keeping things above board.

The best to do is just wait. That is what I am doing. They are not going to stop making 911s, their production is just hampered in the near term by supply issues. I had an allotment to order a 911 early last month and sold it someone who couldn't wait. Patience wins out.

Why wait?

I say - if you have the money, desire and opportunity….go for it

I agree. It doesn't hurt to at least get in line so that when this ADM nonsense is over, you'll be at the top of the list. That's essentially what I'm doing - I'd love nothing more than a delivery in April for my birthday or anything leading up to next summer. But the time to get in line is now, not wait.

For me I already own a 911 and a 356. I can wait and suggest others who don't want to pay through the nose, for car they might not get for 6-9 months, should wait as well. Porsche isn't going to stop making 911s. What is the rush?

If you like paying through the nose and getting jerked around by salesmen sure it's worth it, sure.

You have waited your entire life for a 911what makes right now so special? What is the rush?

Are you sure you are not pay an ADM? You have an order placed and accepted by Porsche AG and a sign contract with a dealer?

Yes, of course! I'm the OP of this whole discussion and I've moved on from the original dealer an am now working with another SA that is keeping things above board. I have the no ADM and my place in line in writing.

If a car doesn’t excite me to the point where I want to get one ASAP….then I probably wouldn’t bother with getting that car at all.

Sorry, but that doesn't make any sense to me. It's a car, an inanimate object. I bought my first Porsche at 19 years old. I should ask what has taken the rest of you so long?

I think you ducked the question.
