992 base or BMW M3

Go with the 991
- I got 992, I was debating , but 992 generation got me in every aspect, the interior become so nice, classic with modern touch. It is not my only car but I only drive it. Commute 50 miles per day but it is worth every penny as for m3, bought my wife x3 it just seems m3 interior just not enough to make me feel special then regular 3 so why bother go with m I’m not racing nobody on the freeway, to me I only judged my cars inside and appearance hoursrpower isn’t everything. I would say m3 just not going to make you feel special enough

Yeah, cross shopping is a weird thing. One year I was looking at Jeep Wranglers and the next thing I knew, I bought an M5. That was by far the weirdest one.
I’ve had other non-obvious ones - I was looking at an e63s when I ended up with a 992 C2s.
Most recently I was looking at Mini Coopers and ended up with the M2 Competition (which sorta makes sense, though price wise the M2 is almost double).
M4 and 992 makes perfect sense to me. There are a ton of BMW M “graduates” in the Porsche world, myself included.
In fact, I’ve noticed that there are a few of people who did the s2000 -> M3 -> 911 progression that I did.

Just traded in a 2020 Taycan 4S. Will be trading in a 2020 Cayenne Turbo S for a Targa4 GTS. I'm also keeping my 2017 Macan Turbo. If the Macan means 2 SUV's...you won't go wrong with it. Otherwise, I would skip the M3 if you don't need another 4 door

how was the S2000 to own? Of course a dream car of my youth, I kind of wonder what I’d think of it were I given a chance to own one now.

The lack of low end torque was comical, but that made the contrast even more fun. At low speeds, it’s slower than a civic.
Unfortunately, the combination of snap oversteer, a wet road, and driving like an idiot = totaled car.
EDIT: One more thing to add - because of the lower power you basically drove the thing like a motorcycle. In other words, you are revving it out constantly. It's from the best era of Honda and bulletproof. Drive it like you stole it and the car was a blast and never complained.

i have both. 2020 992 Carrera and 2021 M3 non Comp.
I prefer the M3 as a daily. Fast, comfortable and has all the infotainment gadget. This car goes through bumps and road imperfections flawlessly.
The 992 is a weekend car. Something that I take out from Home to point A and back home. Definitely more of leisure car (even with PASM suspension).
Budget conversation set aside, between the two is a matter of how you're planning on using it.

Surprisingly raw. Lots of nice mechanical noises. There was a nice change in character when vtec hit, almost like boost. That high rpm was addicting and the car was animal when it got screaming. Gear change was very mechanical feeling. That car is front mid engine and feels like it.

I had two S2000 and they were both fun little cars

I cannot imagine Honda making a car like this again.
