Default Why did you buy the new 992 ?

At this point in my life, and with the world falling apart around me, I decided to go all in on a new car purchase. My choices were to convert my savings into gold to fight the coming devaluation of the dollar, to sell my house and move into an upscale neighborhood, or invest in farm land like Bill Gates. Of course the best option was to save my money in some fashion to deal with the coming economic cataclysm , but I decided, now, is the time for a uniquely irrational act ! I was going to buy a sports car ! Then the choices. I listened to my Gurus like Matt Farah on the Smoking Tire, and Nick Murray, the Kiwi Transplant, Harry's Garage, The Car Guys, and my mother in law. It was decided that I would purchase some manifestation that would allow me to go nuts when I was alone and still take her to Church on Sundays without her getting indigestion. That narrowed it down considerably. Well, the McLaren was beautiful but no storage, the M8 had the gadgets but was so heavy I might as well have gotten a sedan and the Ferrari, well, the Ferrari. Does anyone ever daily drive this car (?) and geez...the interior was surprisingly crap ! My father in law came up with another recommendation, the car should be somewhat reliable. I asked him if I was reliable, but he was silent. So, now, I've narrowed it down to two choices, Audi or Porsche. ( what happened to the rest...hey, I work for a living !) The Audi R 8 was my first choice by far ! Large engine you could see, elegant interior, top notch electronics and navigation system and thrilling ride...yeah ! My mother in laws response.."i'm not getting in there !" So Porsche...tried every model and variant 2019 GTS, 991.2 Turbo, 992 Cabriolet and finally 992 C4S....why ? Because like Nick Murray, I plan on driving it year round and a lot in the snow. I even bought the color combination that he likes adventurine green with truffle brown interior, and suits my mother in laws wardrobe, too, I guess .

my irrational purchase

The result ? A 2020 Porsche 992 C4S with an Akropovic Exhaust and AMR ECU flash with high flow filter. Soon to get a high end after market Stereo Upgrade that is equally nutty in cost. Am I happy ? Yeah, I just put too much sugar in my coffee and I'm on a sugar Rush.

Gorgeous car my friend and very nicely upgraded. Going out now to look at a low mile GT Silver 2020 Carrera S. Good time to put money in something fun.

Q.) Why?
A1.) Because.

A2.) I've owned many Porsche's over the years; quite a number of 356's and a couple of early 911's. But the 911's I only owned briefly. I purchased them used and resold them quickly (for a profit) when I was in college, as a means of paying my tuition. So I have wanted a 911 to keep, for a long time. However, in the interim, I spent my career employed by other OEM automobile companies. Purchasing a competitors vehicle would probably have been seen as a "Career Move" of sorts. But now that I'm retired . . . . I bought my 911.

Why a new 992? It was less expensive than the Ferrari Portofino I was going for. My wife was THRILLED, because the Porsche was $ 100K less than the Ferrari. The 992 gives up very little to the Italian, I might add.

Simple. The only convertible available with three pedals. Well not exactly, but you know what I mean.

I came to the realization that I finally needed a "grown-up" car and the 992 C4S checked off all of the boxes. I also decided that after spending so much time behind the wheel of other people's 911s, it was time to get one of my own.

I test drove the Ferrari Portofino. It's performance was bland, to say the least ! Now try the 458 from last year of the new 488, and now your talking performance ! But you have to part with your house to afford it . The Porsche 922 definitely wins out against the Portofino.

Because both McLarens gave me too much trouble.

Q: Why?
A: Because I've seen it far too many times, from up close and afar, and you can't take it with you. And if it turns out not to be the case - I am totally screwed.....

Well YOU can be that way if you want to. As for me, I stubbornly refuse to grow up!
