My circumstances are such: I've never been a car person. My brother is.

I asked him what car I should buy next, he said he was really into the Cayenne Coupe.

I looked into it more, and (no offense to Cayenne owners) said "nope, I'm not getting into the luxury European SUV daily driver money pit again!" Then I looked further and started exploring the 911. I had a lot of cash slushing around, I'm 44, and I finally said "screw it! I'm going to buy a bad *** expensive luxury sports car, if I'm going to do this right I need to buy something no less iconic than a 911"

After more research and a fun test drive, I realized this was the right car for me. I was thinking of spec'ing and ordering one but instead found a 2020 model that was a dealer showroom car, looked great, had pretty much all of the specs that I wanted, and the rest is history. This car has really turned me into a sports car lover. I wish I had made this discovery 10 years ago

I bought the 911 since i have had 911's in various forms for the past 15 years. It is such an iconic sports car, even the older ones still look cool; The 992 is the pinnacle of all of them.
The timeless, yet evolutionary design, the handling, the dealer network, the performance / price ratio, the reliability - all of it favors the 911. If you look objectively, what other 'sports car', can you get in that price range, that is not completely redesigned every 5 years, thus still looking relevant after 20 years?

My previously owned 911's are:
2004 997.1 Carrera in Arctic silver - showroom floor pick
2008 997.2 Carrera 4S in Midnight Blue w/Cognac interior - still my favorite
2011 991.1 Carrera S in GT Silver
2015 991.2 Turbo in Night blue
2021 992.1 TTS in Night Blue
2022 992.1 GT3 (wait listed)

Bought ours because life is short and the opportunity to create epic memories is fleeting. Was torn between the Spyder and 992 so we're getting both. Picked up one last weekend, the other as soon as I find the right one.

To be clear, we're in a position to do this but if we had to finance them or if paying cash would put us in a bind, we wouldn't get either. Call it a responsible irresponsible splurge.

Don't know which one I envy you more for owning. Heck...it is the Spyder !
After I tried it this summer, it is the most fun I have had in any Porsche, even mine !

and it costs less than the 992

I bought mine as an investment. It’s a bull market for happiness.

I had a Stage II RS3 that was a beast but had no "soul." I did not giggle driving it. 10 second qtr mile car with my heavy *** in it but really did not handle great. So I bought a Q8 fully loaded and said I got the sports car bug out of my system. Bought a 2015 911 Carrera S last Jan and got buyers remorse having both cars so I took it back the next day (dealer was kind). Couldn't get the 911 out of my brain, always wanted one, so I said screw it and traded the Q8 taking a bit of a loss and got the 911. I've been smiling ever since...though only two weeks ;-)

I bought (ordered) mine purely out of boredom during the pandemic...thought I could get a nice vert to have fun with during the coming summer...wrong...then entered the crazy long process which was somewhat fun and finally received in January...haven't got to drive it much yet so not sure of my love for it...

Yeah winter is a big time bummer. Big time. It’s a freezing arctic tundra out there.

But just wait till it warms up. The 911 Cab is a total smile-generator

I bought my 1st 922 when BMW kept delaying the E90 M3. I also thought I needed 4 doors, for the family, and an auto, so my wife could drive it too. Then my wife reminded me that a) we had an SUV, and b) she never drove my then Mercedes anyway. So...2-door manual 997 instead. That was 12 years ago, this car is 911 #3. Why not eh.

I hope so but right now a totally over the top unneeded 150K outlay just sitting there...in all likelihood probably the worst financial decision of my life besides buying this downtown condo...haha!

Welcome to owning an expensive sports car in Chicago

Seriously, of course this purchase was a bad financial decision. Isn’t that exactly what makes it more exciting?

Just where exactly is this "arctic" tundra asks siberian, 180 miles from the arctic circle and 20 miles NW of the Fairbanks megalopolis? Yeah I wouldn't have a cab winter or summer, in the latter the state bird will eat you alive

I'll have to assess my excitement level for it when weather gets better because it's really sort of a hassle to own a play car living downtown.

As for arctic, it has been a quite warm winter again...but arctic air hitting area this weekend with single digit highs and negative lows without wind chill.

Plus you can never enjoy a car like this in Chicago. You absolutely must get away from the city and out into country roads to really experience it.
