Nick Murray said that pretty much all Europeans spec their Porsche with a rear windshield wiper as they also do in Kiwi Land. He doesn't understand why
so few are that way in North America. It might look spiffier without it, but when it rains hard or especially when it snows, it becomes a necessity.

Porsche literally invented the rear wiper. It’s a classy option. In the states, it’s also a tell tale indicator that the car was a customer build.

Nick is right. It’s a $0 option in Australia for example and used to be standard. I didn’t add it here only because I live in SoCal.

Yes it looks clean without one. Practicality does take a hit. However part of that problem can be solved with solutions like RainX etc., So I guess the option exists and I guess majority of the folks here prefer one vs the other.

I would have, but you can't spec a rear wiper AND quiet glass. So I went with the quiet glass. Glad I did as it's very effective.

Rear wiper would definitely hurt resale value in the US.

Would it really make that much difference?
Here in the UK I have had Porsches with and without, but the only one without was from a stock 992 C4S and when it rained....like it does quite a lot here in UK I really wished I had a wiper. Reversing is so much easier and safer when you can see properly.
I agree it doesn't add to the looks of the car ,but it does serve a very useful function because of the shallow angle of the rear screen.

ummm I dont think that this is true for Europe. It is not that common and I would agree that the cars are better without. I was advised not to take it by my sa unless I really wanted it (which I didn't)

I don't have it and I've never noticed any visibility issues from rain. I could see it being valuable for snow though.

I have a rear wiper on my 993 and I never use it. My 992 doesn't have one and I daily drive that car in all kinds of weather including torrential storms. I live on the Gulf coast, which is the rainiest region in the country. Personally, I think the things are a little silly but snow weather might be a different story.

Most 911's are customer build.... the rear wiper is not compatible with lightweight glass, and there is little function to it. The rear is raked enough that the water will quickly drain off, especially under speed.

In real world use, it's by no means necessary, but it is a legit trademark Porsche option. I don't have a rear-wiper on my 992 C4S, but I respect the choice.

I had one on my 981S, and it was really handy. Every time I do an imaginary build (not that I'm buying ) on a 992 I include the rear wiper.
