Default Sales Agent Pressure On Certain Options

For those of you that have found yourself in this situation when reviewing a build with a sales agent...how do you politely, respectfully respond to a sales agent you pressures you to add options to your build that you do not desire? The pressure to add a sunroof is the big one that comes to mind. I know this might be a common sense thing, but I'd still like to hear how others have dealt with pressure from dealers that tell them they are making a mistake if they don't add option (fill in the blank). It's a conversation that quite frankly sounds really not fun and potentially awkward, telling a sales agent, "I don't care if you think it hurts resale, this is what I want, ok?!"

Thanks to y'all in advance, just trying to prepare to stand my ground while being as kind and respectful as possible.

You're the customer - you get to build it the way you want, end of conversation. There should be no pressure at all, if you know what you want, then print it out on the Porsche Configurator and hand it to them with the simple statement "This is what I'd like to buy, no more and no less". I own a retail furniture store and LOVE IT when clients do that, because things move quickly and its onto something else. Only someone who is unprofessional will "push" something at you in an options build. Salesman is going to get paid no matter what you order. Having said that, you will lose a lot of buyers and resale value if you leave off Sport Chrono and a Sunroof. Those are pretty much sought after on the resale market. Have fun, good luck.

I've had zero pressure from my dealer.

Please don't fall for that sunroof BS. It's myth. Forcing yourself to spend $2000 on some old wive's tale is such a classic salesman scam.

Unless you get some sort of crazy *** Christmas color scheme, there is almost no wrong way to build a Porsche.

Get what you want. Unless that joker is paying your bills, who cares what kind of "pressure" he's exerting.

The whole sunroof/resale thing has always perplexed me. Is the thought that the car will lose significantly more than $2,000 of value on resale? I don’t get it, some would have me believe the car is radioactive without a sunroof.

@rk-d Aren’t you trading in your sunroof-less C2S for a TTS at a pretty darn good trade-in value?

When my guy started pushing a couple things I didn't want, I asked if he was throwing them in at no charge? Crickets after that.

Exactly right. I generally think of options as a sunk cost. If you plan to trade in your car like (probably) 90% of us, these resale concerns are a non-issue.

I think I'm getting pretty decent trade in. $10k less than what I paid for it. The TTS will have no sunroof either, which makes me true rebel 😉

I tell them what I want.

They don't tell me what I want.

Simple.

Have you ever been around somebody who was dogmatically immovable? Be like them, adjusted to your personality.

I just built and ordered my first Porsche a few days ago with minimal options. Sport-Tex seats, sports package and extended range fuel tank. The salesman brought up the sunroof to which I said that I don’t want it because I am going to track the car and haven’t slid back the cover of the sunroof in the last 3 daily drivers I’ve owned. That put that to rest. I didn’t feel any “pressure”. I felt that he was just trying to point out things that most people get and that I may not have considered.

Agree with everyone else. Unless you are spec'ing the car out like this, just stand your ground.

If your dealer tries to pressure you into anything you don’t want, find another dealer. Later on if you trade the car, the dealer isn’t going to pass on your trade. I can understand if they say at that point that lack of certain options (like a sunroof) can impact the resale value, but really not much more than the cost of the option itself. A preowned 120k car with a roof is worth $118k without it. It’s pretty presumptious of them to think you’re going to trade the car in, or even trade it in to them.

Why are you concerned? Buy what you want for you. What your sa says about what he/she thinks you want is interesting, but that is about it. Strange question......

That's fair, I can see how you'd think it is a strange thing to ask about. I'll stand my ground for sure, just curious to hear other's mindsets in such interactions. In any case, people have shared thoughts here already that I have found very helpful. So thanks everyone!

If you want to go nuclear, just pretend to be someone with half your IQ. It’s hilarious and nobody is prepared to handle it. Like, are you ready to make this sale, or do you want to explain what the word is means again ?

then explain to them how the lease money factor is unacceptable and you brought your own financing and watch the hate grow behind their eyes.

look, we could have done this the easy way where you just do everything the customer pays you for, but nooooo you wanted to do it the hard way

Already knew what car it was gonna be before I clicked. The irony will be that car massively increasing in value at some point because of how famous it becomes in the Porsche circles.
