992 Carrera T Club
Captain's Log: May 21, 2023. 440 miles on the T. Updated impressions:
Yesterday I put about 250 miles on the T. Drove to CT to Caffeine and Carburetors (awesome event) and then out to the Hamptons doing some errands. Here's the short and long version of my second impression (second day) driving the car:
- 911's are magically sexy and appeal to all.
- The 7spd manual is growing on me.
- Front end is still a 911.
- Rear end is still a 911.
- Cargraphic EV controller is how this car should come from the factory and is a REQUIRED mod for all T owners.
- 911 vs Cayman GTS4.0 verdict? I'm glad I have both.
Longer version:
The T was a huge hit at the C&C, and everywhere it goes. 911's are just so good looking and iconic. And it makes me feel good just driving it. As you know, I own a `22 Cayman GTS4.0, so I'll be comparing the two constantly. The 911 is way better looking IMO. But to my taste, I prefer how the mid-engine car drives over the rear engine car. That's not to say I don't love them both. And I have seen up close the 911 advantages on track, how it accelerates out of a turn, but I feel like the mid-engine is just more well balanced for those of us who are not competitively racing. Similar argument to PDK vs manual. One is faster, one is more enjoyable. The light front end of a 911 as you go over uneven roads is still there but greatly subdued with engineering, tech and time. But it's still there. The steering is excellent. And THE BRAKES ARE AMAZING! The 911T brakes are incredible. The pedal is firm and they are strong - much better than the CGTS which I think has bigger brakes. The CGTS has more pedal travel before engagement whereas the 911 is immediate and stronger.
The 7spd manual is growing on me. I've never, ever had to think about what gear I'm in as I drive (in nearly 40 years of manual driving) and yet somehow I find myself thinking just a bit before and during a quick shift. The centering spring is strong so you do have to be deliberate to avoid being brought to center (which is between 3-4th greats) if you are not intending to be there. But it's a good tranny. What I do find different is what I think is the feeling caused by the cables. It's almost like there's more flex in the 911 cables than in the 718. Especially in lower gears. But as I said, it's growing on me and if I didn't have both cars, I'd never know the difference.
The Cargraphic VC is definitely money well spent. At anything in low RPMS's and especially very low like driving in/out of a car show, the exhaust sounds very good. I'm still keeping RPM's low, so I'm not sure if this will be enough for me without exhaust mods, but it might be. Now, the NA 4.0 in the 718 is just far superior in sound. It is. But the turbo whine is growing on me and the 3.0tt engine seems very good. More on that after it's broken in though, to be fair.
Overall, I love the car, well, cars. I love owning a 911, but so far, I love driving a 718 more. Thankfully, I don't have to choose between them!
Hopefully, people will appreciate this info and take it for what it is: just some early impressions. More to come if you want to hear it. Please don't beat me up if you disagree with any of it. I may change my mind on half of it myself! LOL

Excellent datapoint, thank you. Converted to lbs and adding a bit more detail:
3,130 lbs with rear seat and Spyder wheels and near empty fuel tank
- 25 lbs with rear seat delete (estimate)
- 15 lbs with Carrera S wheels (estimate)
+ 140 lbs for full tank of gas
3,230 lbs vs. the published 3,241 lbs for a basic spec T.

The standard fuel tank is the 64 liter one. Also, for the "empty weight", they use the weight of 90% full tank.
Thus: 64*0.9*0.75 = 94 lbs.

Looks a lot better with the grill! Otherwise you see the aluminium color of the radiator, like in the picture below...

I was going to say that a liter of gas weighs more than 12 oz....but as I thought about what it must weigh I realized the error wasn't in the solution but in the display.

Edit: You're right. Fuel weighs 6 lbs per gal. 8.3 is fluids. So, yes, 101 lbs for a full tank or 91 lbs for 90% full. This now means the car is lighter than the published weight, assuming rear seats and Spyder wheels are the only options that add weight.
