Does your 992 make a clicking noise like this?
Hey all,
I have been two three dealers about this and they all tell me this is normal. That everything sounds fine. I am on my 2nd 992 in a few months time. My first 992 was bought back over a defective PDK. And my 2nd 992 I have now makes a clicking noise that is driving me nuts. This clicking noise happens under low speed and light throttle. When I come to a dead stop the clicking stops. Once I take off, it clicks to a certain point and the engine noise takes over. Ive had a few members state theirs does this too. But I am curious to find out if we all hear this. Because my first 992 did NOT do this.
The clicking like noise starts a nano second before the 3 second mark. Its like a clicking/cricket or pully rubbing on something like sound. I also seem to think I smell burning rubber. But my car only has 1200 miles.
What do you all think this is?

Possibly a faulty fuel injector or the valve timing is off...
There is a rocker arm that helps open & close the valves. Normal setup with camshaft & pushrod that controls it. The valves move at a fast and short distance. If they aren’t precisely adjusted, you can hear a metallic ticking sound similar to what you’re hearing. I’m not a flat-six expert, but the setup is universally used on modern cars.

No but I get the crickets as previously discussed. It's not a click, more constant chirping crickets on light throttle at low revs. Not there at idle, likely still there at faster engine speeds but drowned by general engine and road noise.

Another possibility would be the disk rotor or wheel bearing. I'd expect some vibration with either one of those.
Might be worth having an Indy take a look at it.

Thank you everyone. If I had to guess, this is a PDK or pully/belt issue. It only makes this noise if I'm on the throttle. If I coast it, it goes silent. If I lift off, it will click for a second until something in the same RPM matches it and it goes silent. Its like a pulley that is clicking and engages and disengages at a certain throttle points if that makes any sense. I can coast with no noise, give it slight gas and basically make it click on demand to a certain point.
Scheduled my 5th dealer visit about this... 5th!

All I hear in that video is normal 911 noises. Is the "chirping" that some are hearing just the turbos whistling? I hear them whistling anytime I'm in an enclosed space, and I supposed it could be described as "chirping."

Im curious to hear yours. I think we are local to each other. One of these days we should meet and take a short ride with each other to compare.
No, this is not turbo spool. I love that sound. Its not waste gate flutter either. Its something to do with me being on the gas. And its clearly connected to something that spins because when I slow down that sound eventually slowly rolls off. Im seriously thinking its a pully or belt making that sound I hear.
Thank you. Oddly enough I just played my youtube video link on my home PC with surround speakers and too much BASS and I dont hear it at all...lol. But on my iphone or work PC I hear it clear as day.
The good news is, the car runs fine. I have no CELs. And its under warranty if something does break. Im just annoyed with that clicking like sound.

If it happens slightly after you lift off, could be the alternator bearing, a pulley, belt, etc. Can you tell roughly where the sound is coming from? I definitely wouldn’t accept that as “normal”. Definitely sounds like a metal on metal squeal.

Yes, I would agree. It does sound like a metal on metal squeal with a click like noise mixed it. I can only hear it when the car is on throttle and once its off throttle it will keep making the sound for about a second before it stops. As if I had spun it up and it needed to spin back down to to a point where it doesn't make the noise. So I only hear it with the car moving and it sounds like its coming from right below the back seats tray.
