I'd suggest that most folks buy the upgrade for the better brakes, increased performance, or other little goodies that come with the S, with the logic that after they've spent $150K, "what's another 10K to get it exactly as you want?" If someone has given this much thought to the badge, perhaps they should just pay the man.

As for those who perceive the S as purely a marketing scam, and try to get over on someone by putting on a phony badge, what's the point? Anyone who actually knows the cars will know the difference. And what do they really care about what someone on the street thinks? After all, they've already bought into the brand. Most laymen don't even know what an 'S' on the back means. They're playing to a small audience - people who care but who don't know the difference.

It's more likely that someone will be less impressed when they notice that someone has put that much effort towards fraudulently playing the badge game. Like Rick in Casablanca said, "I don't mind a parasite. I object to a cut-rate one." If someone is going to feel inferior over the lack of a letter on the back of their car, just de-badge it. If you saw a non-S car sporting an S, wouldn't you be less impressed?
Bravo. My sentiments exactly. Have the "S" version because that's what I wanted. Simple as that. Don't consider it an ego thing (too old for that BS), but not embarrassed by it either. As you say, the "informed audience" is rather small anyway. I guess if I were trying to impress the masses, I'd go for the exotic look (e.g., Ferrari, McLaren, even a C8), but when I see one I kind of expect Darth Vader to be behind the wheel. Not knocking those who prefer that - just personal preference, just like every other cosmetic effect on the vehicle.

If there are lovers of unique timepieces here and if you want something really one of a kind - I recommend Artisans de Geneve. They do beautiful customizations (I have one and it is one of my favorite pieces)

Thanks. Very happy with it. Porsche Code = PM3UHLX0. Not a cheap build, but was trading in a 991.2 Turbo S so made it pretty much an even swap.

It looks like your car is priced almost identical to mine. Like you I have had 911's before so I ordered what I wanted. It's not here yet, but I was really happy with my GTS that I sold in October so I know this car will be great. Enjoy yours, great looking car.

Curious... why did you trade in the 991.2 TTS? TTS vs Targa seems like diametrically opposite options.

I’m going from a 991.2 GTS. I wanted an all weather cruiser. I also came to hate center lock wheels🙂

isn’t a bit self-defeating to pay the $18,000 for the S model to get a faster car and then select the manual which makes the car slower than the PDK?

I would like to see some 0-60 comparison runs with a Targa 4 with the PDK and a Targa 4s with a manual trans. They could end up fairly close in terms of 0-60 performance where shift speed has a lot of impact. In the 1/4 mile the S should be decently faster once the gears have been traveled through.

I buy only blue dial Watches and wanted to match my Targa 992 to the watches but alas Shark blue was not available before my order locked last week and the other blues seem too dark. So I went with the Bordeaux red interior and red top — and now I have a reason to add a nice watch with a red dial - Rolex just came out with one though it is harder to source than a 2021 Targa.

Wasn't really thinking about it when i placed my order for Chalk Targa; however, my watch should go well with it. Love the bluesey with the full gold!

beautiful watch - Rolex watches attract fans that appreciate quality and superlative engineering and owning everyday usable devices that have been art.

both are very hard to explain the cost benefit reason why one would spend seemingly excessive dollars when their are tools that can accomplish the same task for massively less cost ( telling the time and driving to the grocery store).

I like watches because there is no oil changes and you rarely need to replace the tires and a Rolex never needs a new battery.
