Here's my solution to protect the evaporators/radiators on 992s with automatic louvers. See pic.
I merely rolled up three cylinders of plastic mesh made by Gutter Guard and inserted them behind the louvers, leaving clearance for the louvers to operate.

I merely rolled up three cylinders of plastic mesh made by Gutter Guard and inserted them behind the louvers, leaving clearance for the louvers to operate.
There are four cylinders about 2.7" to 3" in diameter that are installed individually. They take up all the available horizontal space and thus are captured, so no need to fasten them to each other or any part of the car. Also if you need to clean out leaves/debris from the radiator area, you can simply squeeze each cylinder and easily fish them out one by one.
so do these exposed radiators get "destroyed" without a grill in front of them and is this something that "every" owner should install?

Yep, I had to have my condenser replaced on my 718, owing to damage from road debris. That new Freon, 1234YF, is $$$ not to mention the cost of the condenser.

I thought about that but the mesh is not as dense as it looks in the photos. What's more I can easily monitor engine water temperature and so far there has been no change.

likely no issue under casual/normal commute-type driving. at the track i'd be concerned - running at high rpm for an extended period of time; there's a reason they have the surface area they have and the opening size.

For track use the cylinders could be extracted in a matter of seconds. At my age there will be no track days anyway.
Here's a pic of one of the plastic mesh cylinder. As you can see, it's quite "airy" and should not inhibit air flow to the condenser or radiator. The green bread-tie was used for the photograph; I used small zip-ties for the cylinders that I installed in my 992 S.
