The 992 PDK RND selector is fine. You touch it once or twice when you drive the car and that’s it. It doesn’t feel cheap. Be glad that they didn’t mount that switch on the dash like they did with the Taycan — it has the basically the same switch.

I would be fine if Porsche just went to buttons like every other serious performance car. If they must have a lever-like switch so that some lawyer doesn’t drive through the wall of his own garage... okay.

I don’t understand the obsession over having some huge lever there — it’s just something else to impale you in a collision. Using the lever to change gears was always lame and a carryover from the tiptronic days.

It was not lame at all, it was very badass as it was a throwback to racecars with hewland sequentials.

Shifting with the lever makes you feel like Ken Block. Certainly more engaging than driving it like an automatic. Simple fix: get the manual.

The mule has copious amounts of plastic cladding in order to hide the actual front and rear body panels (or because the final molds are not ready).

Except the "tip" action is backwards. 99% of sequential gearbox levers pull back to shift up, and push forward to shift down. Also, being as how the Tiptronic arrived in 1990 and sequentials gaining in popularity around the same time, I don't think it is a "throwback."

The thing is with the 991 I use the gear shift lever in manual as often as I use the paddles with my GT3. At different times it just give you different levels of satisfaction. Can't explain it.

I'd be bummed if the 992 GT3 only had the Norelco nub. I've grabbed it with my thumb and index finger like a light switch. That's as much of my paw I could get on it.

Hope we get something useful for sure!

For what it's worth I have a DCT M4 and I never use the paddle shifters, I only use the shifter as to me it's more fun and satisfying. I don't think I'll care once my 992 arrives though, the paddle shifters I'll just have to get used to.

Has anyone noticed the side mirrors on the new 992? Only one design as opposed to 2 different optional designs on the 991? No sport design mirrors? Another cost cutting measure??

Probably just another slow play option they’ll add later. Like the sport design package, under door projectors, clear lights, and the aero wing.. GT3 lookalike lol the additions will never end

My guess would be that the single mirror is optimized for aero on all the current 992 variants, including Sport Design and Aerokit-equipped cars. Perhaps a nod to efficiency rather than a cost-cutting measure.

makes sense for both RS models to be PDK only.

I wonder if the regular GT4 will get a PDK option like the GT3?, or the only PDK option in the GT4 line will be on the RS?

Porsche have already said the regular GT4 will get a PDK option. The part we don't know is if the engine in the GT4 (which is electronically hamstrung to produce no more than 310 ft-lbs due to that being the maximum rating of the Manual gearbox) will be unfettered in the PDK version (should make around 340 ft-lbs if allowed to breathe freely).

I just wonder if Porsche meant that one of the GT4 model will get PDK. So I think its possible this will be fulfilled by the GT4RS, while the standard GT4 stays manual only. Partly, because it would be weird if the PDK version of the standard 718 GT4 gets more torque as the PDK can handle the extra torque. As you noted, the manufacturer of the manual transmission in the GT4 limited the max torque to be only 310 for both the 981 and 718 GT4 models. Which still I think is a real shame for the 718 GT4. The car gets new 4.0L engine, and while it does get more low end torque than the 981, it's too bad the new 718 GT4 isn't allowed to use the additional high end torque from the larger engine.

Either way, I don't expect the GT4RS with PDK to make 340 ft lbs. Torque for the GT4RS will approach but not supersede the .2 GT3 torque of 339. My guess is torque will be 325-330 for the upcoming GT4RS.
