Have never heard one complaint about the 991 shifter. Actually even had a button and is mechanical.
Not some electronic toggle switch like the nubbin. It's an insult to any driving enthusiasts. It belongs in a mini van.

I hate the nubbin, but I do think the 991 PDK shifter was over-styled ( and slightly phallic, but aren't they all?) and I also HATED the shift manual direction pattern. How Porsche thought it was OK to reverse the pattern from their 30 ish years of sequential transmission racing experience is beyond me.....
I have no aversion to PDK but I do avoid all of this by getting a 911 with 3 pedals...you know.... as god intended..... So I'll try my best to remain positive here and say that maybe we should embrace the nubbin because it may equal more manual trans sales (as many others have said too).

Was hoping they would have fixed the shifting pattern on the new car. Instead they threw it all out the window. Agree, a big mistake on the 991.
Wonder that the critics think of the manual shifter?? What does everyone want, gender neutral thoughtful designs??

I know its mind blowing but in person the 992 just looks like a 911... that's why I'm so entertained by this thread. Its really not that drastic of a change in the flesh and remains a very attractive car to look at.
Interior I was very negative on pics and it looks much nicer in person to me. Doesn't knock my socks off but it is nice with one exception: I hate the black plastic on the center console, I have no idea who's bright idea that was. It doesn't even match any other finishes... other than that I think it looks good, nubbin and all.
And for those saying nobody disliked the 991 shift lever, count me in the camp that disliked it. lever was ok at best but how it attached with a big cheap looking silver flat piece I always thought looked lame. Guess what? I hated that piece and still LOVED the 991. Shocking I know that the shift lever didn't ruin the whole car for me.

I just did a super quick test, on my wife's and my brother's reaction to this pic....and I told them both that these are the new 911s, which one you like the best. Guess what? they both picked the 991.2, saying it looks so much sharper than the one of the right.
If this is the way it goes, I need to do what Kenny Powers did as a CEO (lol - youtube it) - "I have 51% shares, and fires the CEO...lol"

Now when we got to a nice GT3RS on the lawn, she knew exactly what it was and said 'now that's a good looking car'.

It would be better if the shifter and console had been designed properly, so that people could order their transmission of choice on its merits rather than to avoid getting the one they don't want.

I hear what you're saying but I just can't see a traditional manual being right for this car. It's like putting a stick shift on something from Star Trek. If I were to order a 992 with a manual, I'd be buying into an anachronism. I'd never shake the thought that I'm not getting all the engineering I'm paying for.

It certainly won't look or feel that way from the driver's seat. Not with the new 'glass cockpit' with screens everywhere, a cramped greenhouse with lowered seating position, a Brobdingnagian cupholder that you'll hit with your elbow every time you go to shift a manual, door handles with their own multicore processors, and so on.
Remember that we still haven't seen this car in its final form. It is more a rolling development platform than a finished product. The first 991.1 that rolled off the line was no different from the last 991.1, and the same was true of the first and last 991.2s. That will not be the case this time around.
History will see the 992.1 as a transitional fossil. Not saying that's a good or bad thing, it is what it is. The last transitional fossil was the 996, and it sold like hotcakes.

Impressive his passion for the cars and his collection. This one seems to be a complicated story and situation. Funny I came across this store after I had posted pictures above.
