I would bet on the above, any other conclusions from today’s release of 992.2?
That’s a shame.

I’m not too keen on the rear Porsche script looking like an insert placed between the turn signals. I’m also afraid the 992.2 Touring will adopt the same CHMSL like the S/T.

The only reason why I think they might still build it is to grab the Nords record lap time title back...

There will be a PTS Nardo Gray, well spec’d, ~1900 mile one available at Porsche North Houston in about 40 days

I share your opinion of the rear Porsche script.

I am guessing this is mostly the battery and motor and other hybrid components. I also understand that they reconfigured the engine to shave 40lbs off of it by the elimination of the accessory drive.

Of note is that I believe that the advertised weight assumes no rear seats. Adding rear seats is a zero cost option so the actual weight gain is even larger when compared to the predecessor.

I just looked at the curb weight for the 992.1 GTS and it's 3350 lbs, so adding 110 lbs is a ton of weight. And as you stated, if adding rear seats, probably another 40-60 lbs?

Agree, the usual suspects have gone quiet in the last year or so. They aren't hearing anything about it. Although before that there were discussions about it including the dynamic camber system, diffuser, etc.

Porsche puts out the lightest of all on the 911 platform with the S/T at just over 3,000 lbs and then like a schizophrenic turns around and makes a 3500 lb GT car. Porsche’s reputation as a giant killer has always been lighter is faster.
Edit: Hopefully RUF starts buying up these 400 volt pigs and makes them a car.

You go hybrid, that's the penalty. It's more stuff.

I guess we’re going to see if 911 enthusiasts are ready to go electric. It feels like 1998 again.

I don't mind hybridization (in non-GT cars) so much as the extra weight it implies. Can always fix engine/exhaust sounds. Lot harder to fix a weight problem.

The most fun I have in my GT3 is when I'm under 50 miles of range due to the lighter weight with an empty gas tank. I'm working on losing weight myself (slight driver mod). Hm... I wonder what the passenger seat weighs.

Porsche has many variations of the 911 theme, for a variety of buyers and uses. It shows the versatility of the platform and the skill of the engineers.

That's unfortunate. The electric turbo would have been great for GT2 RS. I never had an interest in it because of the lag. With an electrified turbo, it can be so much more fun, especially off the track. And the 992 RS aero would be great with more power too.

I like how they opened up about turbo lag, now that they have a way to fix it. They mentioned that 992.1 GTS takes 3 seconds (!!!) to get to full boost from 2000 RPM and closed throttle and the new system takes less than a second. Granted, it does not mean that nothing happens for 3 seconds - a good portion of torque is available within a second or less - but it shows that lag is very real in the 3.0 turbo engine. It makes me feel vindicated for saying that lag makes it hard for me to enjoy turbo 911s, ironically with Turbo being the least impacted by lag (probably WTG and higher displacement playing a role).

Another impressive detail is that they lowered the engine by 110mm (4 inches) - this will shift the center of gravity even lower, especially if it means gearbox is lowered too.

I'm lukewarm on the design, especially the baleen at the front, but performance-wise it does look like a good step forward, except for weight.
