Default Upgraded Sound System 992 GT3

Anyone upgrade the stock speakers? I did the basic stereo and its AWFUL. I can barely hear my music with the windows open. Didn't realize Porsche would put something so terrible in a car. Has anyone done speaker upgrades? Thoughts, concerns, photos?

Save your money I don’t really think it matters. I have the Bose there is so much interior ambient noise ,nothing is going to sound good. That’s the harsh reality of the car. Not designed to be a great listening environment. The only sounds you can hear really well are the engine and the tire noise..Carl

Yeah, I am not a fan of electric cars, but I am an audiophile. EV’s are the way to go if you wanna listen to music in the car (the lack of ambient noise makes a huge difference and there is a fierce power supply onboard for all the audio gear). With the GT3, I have the base system and it doesn’t sound very good but I don’t care and don’t plan to do anything about it.

The one thing that I found useful with the GT3’s audio is to set the controls for Bass and Treble (and Balance and Fader, if you like) independently for each source. The FM, XM, Pandora, and music on my iPhone for CarPlay each have a different sound and the car allows you to change the settings for each (and it remembers when you change sources).

It’s more than just upgrading the Soundsystem. You’d have to tear the interior apart and install some type of sound deadening insulation Pretty much everywhere. there’s a reason porsche didn’t offer their high end Burmaster Soundsystem. They didn’t wanna deal with all the complaints. Carl

I’m an audiophile and while I may agree with you in some respects, the major advantage of the Burmester is that it can stay relatively clean when pushing insane volumes. So, theoretically, you can overpower some of the interior noise with the Burmester - it’s just at the expense of your hearing.

I’m not looking for a Hifi audio setup in the car, that’s what my home system is for, but I literally blew my front driver Bose woofer last weekend on the highway home from the track listening to jazz at volume level 20. Lol wtf?

If the stock Bose speakers are so crappy and the doors have to be taken apart anyways, I’m interested in replacing the speakers with higher quality aftermarket ones.

I’ve been down this wormhole before and it can be a massive migraine trying to find speakers, adapter rings, plug and play wiring adapters etc. If anyone has done this on the 992 and has some specs or sources to purchase things it would be greatly appreciated.

Bummer that Rennspec close down, any other vendors like them?

I always get the stock base stereo as I track my cars and listen to mostly podcasts. But My god the base stock stereo in the 992 GT3 is just the worse, I mean like 1980s econobox terrible. I honestly don’t know to how to describe how awful it is. I think a GT car with the radio delete option, which then has alarm clock radio stuck in the space where the stock radio should be would actually sound dramatically better. Just a thought

Damn it! I didn't know rennspec was out of business. I figured I'd wait until delivery to solve this problem and now I don't know what the solution is.

I remember on my 991 people with hose were putting burmester tweeters in... Maybe that is next in line?

Same. I was waiting to get the car to see how good/bad the Bose system was before picking up a Rennspec plug & play speaker solution. Finally got the car, blew a speaker, and saw they closed.

I guess Nick from MusicarNW is our only hope now for plug & play. Only problem is I don’t want to spend a ton of money on a Hifi GT3 stereo, which is what he offers. I just want something moderately better quality than Bose that won’t blow at medium volume.

There is just so much ambient noise to overcome I don’t think there is a good solution with the exception of redoing the whole interior of the car. Take a DB reading @9k well over 110.carl

I don't understand complaints around the Bose system - it's very good IMO. Gets plenty loud, loud enough to cover the engine noise and that's with the bass all the way up listening to EDM with no distortion.

Ordering the base system on a $200k car is just a miss under any scenario IMO.

The Bose actually sounds very good as long as the car is not running or moving! Carl

Wait for Dundon to come out with their system for the 992 chassis.

The Musicar Stage III plus (includes a subwoofer in the back of the car) is quite impressive. I have it in my 991.2 Touring. I totally disagree with those who say that having an upgraded stereo in a GT3 is a waste of money. If I want to enjoy the car's naturally aspirated soundtrack, I can do so. If I want to listen to some of my favorite tunes with impressive clarity and texture and not even think about the car's engine, I can do that as well, and I do not have to turn the volume to 11 to do so. Best of both worlds.
