Matt hasnt put in the amps yet.

And he simply disconnected the center dash speaker. He didnt feel that it added anything to the sound stage in a previous install and ended up turning it off.
Apparently, it's also a pain trying to take the clock out. A big risk, so he didn't see the upside to swapping out the center speaker.

He said that the sound system is better, "but certainly not $6,000 better with the stock amp."

He said that he actually likes the Morel softdome in his E36 a lot more.
Says the Focal beryllium is "super bright and thin sounding to me"

Regarding the amp:

"I ended up doing it just now, and yeah, it's the biggest pain in the **** ... but doable. The Helix he tuned likely isn't using the CC, or just as fill I assume. If one is just replacing the speakers though (and not the amp), I think you have to replace the center as 1) the Bose tune puts a lot of emphasis on the CC, and 2) the Bose speakers are much more efficient so if you leave the CC it sounds louder and overpowers the side midranges IMO."

Too bad Porsche doesn't offer the Burmeister system for the GT3 for slightly more than half the cost of this Focal system.
Would have saved the hassle and the sound quality would have most likely been better too!
The install of that amp on the passenger side sounds like a major time suck.

That's generally my impression of beryllium tweets in home stereos (helps to have a juicy triode tube amp). Used to have horn speakers with 4" beryllium diaphragm midrange compression driver and sounded good.

Of course, not all Be tweets are created equally...

Looks gorgeous!! I have had the Focal in the box for a couple months and haven't had time to install. But I was wondering how I could cover up the Bose decal and what you did is perfect! How/where did you get all that done on the speaker grills?

Was actually thinking of installing this kit because the base system sucks. Add an amp with these speakers and call it a day.

$7500 and it doesn’t even include the most important part: the amp. I would give Musicar a ring, they have a better solution and you don’t have to pay for the fancy case and the “limited” numbered badge.

I just ordered the front tweeter speakers over the weekend.
Nick at Musicar is a pleasure to work with.

STAGE ONE

HIGH-END TWEETER UPGRADE

When designing these upgrades, we're evaluating the weakest points in the factory system and developing strategies to make improvements in the most problematic areas first. In the 991, this was the tweeters, and the 992 doesn't stray from that shortcoming. Due to their low-quality composition and small diaphragm, the factory Bose tweeters sound tinny and harsh — especially at higher volumes. We can turn the treble down in the PCM, but at that point you're also muting the top end information and sacrificing resolution.

Replacing these tweeters with a higher-quality driver allows for a more enjoyable listening experience at all volumes. The larger(28mm) soft-dome diaphragm of the Morel Elate Carbon tweeter has a much more linear response curve, yielding a more natural sound. We are also installing a less efficient driver, so it's actually a bit less output at the same volume. This reveals more of the bass and midrange for a balanced listening experience. That said, this isn't going to net us an "audiophile-like" experience from the Bose system. We're still using factory power and all of the other original speakers. If your main complaint on the Bose is the overly-bright top end, this is the perfect solution.

Of course, we've engineered the retrofit to be a drop-in, plug-n-play installation. The factory Bose tweeter mount does need to be clipped out to allow for the Burmester style mounting solution we implement, but the car can still easily revert to factory with our adapters(sold separately). The install is fairly simple and takes roughly 45min per side if you're taking your time.

I finally got around to installing the tweeters.
Install is easy peasy. Just watch the Musicar You Tube video.
Cranked up some U2 on Sirius XM Radio and the difference was obvious!
Definitely a worthwhile upgrade.
