@PTS absolutely required to take the allocations. Whether on paper they did or not is another story between them and their dealer.

I'm not sure the 918 VIPs were required to purchase any car they didn't want to purchase. Maybe one of them can chime in. @unotaz
My SA has a 918 VIP that is only interested in purchasing numbered cars.
As a result, he passed on the GT4RS. Got a Sport Classic. S/T on the way.

I was thinking there is no way in 2014 that the 918 buyers would sign a contract where they were required to buy every GT car or specialty model Porsche makes for the next 10 years.

No, not every model ever made. Every allocation offered to them for specialty cars, numbered cars, GT cars mostly, 911R, RS spyder etc. Lower models did not enter the requirement. VIP passed on a 4RS means the dealer takes the slot. That is part of "The Deal".unspoken rules. Now I will put the keyboard down on this particular subject and just wait til next year when all of this is over.

There's no way someone would sign something obligating them to buying any number of cars for the next 10 years, back in 2014.
The way I've always understood the program is they have first right of refusal to any specialty car, and at MSRP.

Exactly; the party being obligated is the dealer. There was no obligation on the part of the 918 buyers. That would've been bat$#!+ cuckoo.
I guess the idea is that the VIP-ordered GT cars are extra allocations that the dealer wouldn't otherwise get, so it's no hardship to force them to sell them at MSRP to the 918 VIPs. Curious how that requirement was written into PCNA's contract with the dealerships, though.

Riddle me confused. They're "absolutely required" but can pass and the spot goes to the dealer.

What if the 918 VIP was simply broke?

Dealers are in on it as the msrp cars promised still need to be sold through the dealer. Also, the VIP needs to honor the allocations so that was basically 10 years of guaranteed sales of numerous cars to certain individuals at whatever msrp retail margins the dealers normally make. If a VIP renegs on a particular offering they lose their status. The smarter VIPs just established back door deals with their dealer, hence the specialty cars found at some dealers with no miles just waiting for their just date to be sold at arbitrary ADMs. I don't blame either party. That is the beauty of capitalism. Most of us would've taken the deal back in 2015. Especially as the 918 has progressively increased in price, whatever has been spent in prior GT cars, speedsters etc. is offset by the valuation of 1 car. That is almost a no brainer, assuming the original VIP still owns the 918 spyder.
