Allocation + ADM?
#1756
No one is denying that there is a shortage across the board when it comes to cars but I would say that we are probably close to the very top of the market so unless I really wanted the car ASAP, why would I pay the current ADMs? The chip shortage will get straightened up in the next 12 months or so and all ADMs (including on non Porsches) will come down because auto markers are gonna ramp up supply big time.

Agreed, it depends on how big the "want now" factor is. When cars like Kias are trading above MSRP, you know there is a supply dislocation across the board and not just with Porsche. I spoken to my dealership and told them if I get an allocation they get a car back from me so a win-win and told them I'm not in any rush, we'll see if I get an MSRP allocation or not.

I enjoyed the video. I like that he specced with intention and plans to drive the car. I give credit to those of you (us) who actually drive these cars. I couldn't care less about how much I spend on a car. What matters to me is if I want to grab the keys EVERY time I leave the house. Two cars have done that for me lately - 993 and 991.2 GT3. I've had some more "special" cars in the last bit of time and they are gone for lack of use. (993 is gone for excessive hassle factor, but that's a different topic for a different sub-forum)
not a 992 sorry just an old used up 997

I gave an MSRP 991.2 Touring allocation to another local person and made sure it stayed MSRP for that gentleman - he was very excited and promised to send photos and stay in touch and let me know how the car was. Dealer promised to make it right on the next go around - never heard from either of them again once the paperwork was signed/commission number moved to the new buyer. My point is I dont trust anything related to this until proven otherwise or folks reciprocate the same gestures. Ive found that to exist more on the motorsports side than the dealer/GT cars arena.

Absolutely. If I recall correctly, early in this thread or another one, a sales guy from Porsche Greenwich said they were selling at $20k ADM, which looks like a great bargain now, but he still got some flak.

If they were all selling at MSRP, the complaints would be why no one can get a discount off MSRP for returning a GT car as a trade, buying cars in the past, relationship, etc. It goes with the territory that there is complaining.

I don't think GT car ADMs go away when the world returns to some level of normal. Brands like Kia, absolutely.

It is reasonable to assume that the chip shortage will last 12 to as many as 24 months. Toyota for example just announced they are cutting production 40% for the month of September despite massive demand. Chevrolet is temporarily closing multiple factors for a few weeks at a time. The major chip manufacturers are suggesting 18 months before “normalization” of chip supply. If it takes 18 months or certainly if it takes 24 months we will be talking about the next 911 model which I am sure will even be better in some ways. Having said that, I would think enjoying a car now makes it worth paying a premium especially for a model that is likely to always be in short supply. As pointed out in this forum even Kia is charging premiums now. Ferrari takes a different approach than Porsche. While there is no ADM you have to buy multiple cars if you would hope to get a new model within the first 2 years of its production run. If it is a really great car you will never get one unless you are a good customer who buys at least one new car every year. So pick your approach. If money drives you then the Porsche ADM of $20K or so is the more economic choice among supercars. In my case I agreed the $20K ADM. My car is expected in October (or whenever it finally shows up)
