Personally, i dont see anything leaps and bounds coming over the 991.2.....
I think if an owner is content and happy with their 991.2 GT3 and finds it checks all their boxes, then that is a wonderful thing. They really are such amazing machines.

I also think that Porsche will endeavor to make the 992.1 better in every meaningful metric they can over it's predecessor (aesthetics notwithstanding, though I am optimistic the GT cars will see some design elements that improve them over the base 992s), and at the end of the day I predict many owners who are satisfied today with their 991.2s will find the prospect of upgrading a more appealing prospect when the opportunity presents itself.

  • It will surely perform better on the track regardless of HP/torque numbers. There's a lot more to putting down a lap time than that. The new GT3 will put down an impressive 'ring time and that seems to mean a lot these days
  • The tech will be better (much better) and that too will help - a lot of GT cars seem to be moving in to near-DD (or at least nearly 100% street) use. Tech matters. Things like wireless Carplay, etc. will sell the upgrade
I bet Porsche does just fine on the 992 GT3
Typically, we havnt seen people paying over sticker for 991 GT cars.... So moving out of them will not be as easy as it was in the past...
Given the 991.2 improvements, the 992 is the same motor. Getting harder to squeeze additional performance from same platforms. Emissions are also going to hurt the future of all these GT cars.
Unless they can shave additonal weight off the new car, we are not going to see current owners run to the dealers with deposits. Less is more with GT cars and the hardcore customer base knows it.

Until we start seeing less weight or more center located engines, the GT cars are not going to be leaps and bounds over the 991 GT we have today.

What the 992.1 GT3 has going for itself, is that it will be produced just before another set of noise regulations will be introduced. The GT3 RS, will not be so lucky. Seeing how much quieter the Speedster is compared to the 991.2 GT3, I weep for the future of these cars.

No one mentions Frankfurt in September. That’s where It’ll happen...

^ That's because the last ever Frankfurt Auto Show was in 2019. Location of the 2021 show in Germany is TBD.

So the Speedster had to comply with emissions/noise regs that the 992.1 GT3 will not? What am I missing?

I think he's saying that the Speedster (and 992 GT3) had to comply with current rules and 992RS will comply with newer and stricter rules.

And you are correct 👍 Although sites listing car shows still announces Frankfurt - they take turns with Paris every second year.

So if it doesn’t show at Goodwood, Paris 29th of September to 11th of October seems likely.

Yep, this year is Paris, maybe at Paris 2020 will have GT3 Touring, GT3 RS will be Frankfurt 2021, and RS Touring Geneve 2022.

Correct and the 2018 GT3 991.2 did not have to comply to the current standards. The current cars are quieter because of the OPF, which the 2018 cars were exempted from.

So from a exhaust sound level it goes some like this:

2018 991.2 GT3 > 2019 GT3 RS and 2019 Speedster and 992.1 GT3 > 992 GT3 RS

I had a 2018 Gt3 and 2019 3rs. The 3rs was as loud, if not more loud. There isn't anything mechanically different about 19 3rs that would make it quieter than an 18 Gt3. I think the only "quieter" 991.2 3Rs' were the 2nd batch row 3rs cars that came with opf (of which none of those came to US)?
