I believe that you believe correctly. I also believe that 3~ 991.1 911R buyers elected to do Light Ivory. I wish it had been the only white available, along with the other colors that 911R prototypes and "production" 911Rs were painted in 1967-1968. So Light Ivory, Fire Red, Blood Orange, Lemon Yellow, Scarab Blue, Cadillac Gold, etc. and then PTS for the deviants.

(Pssst...I suspect Cadillac Gold may have been a 1 of 1 again, mirroring 1968!)

Pete, you are touching on a
subject very dear to my heart.
Here is an older post of mine
on this topic before the 'current'
911R were released. Any thing
you want to add (or correct for
the record) would be welcome!

***
Well, I think it's time get another conversation going re: the
original colors of the limited production 1967 911R. Daniel
(Lessthan3mph) has done excellent research on this subject
& I know he will add mightily to this discussion.

A few months ago Daniel informed me, according to research
he had done, that the colors of the original 911R were:

'feuerrot-fire red' (prototype R2),
'blutorange/tangerine' (prototype R3),
'zitrongelb' (Prototype R4),
'slate grey' (#13),
'cadillac gold' (#15),
'reventlow blue' (#20),
All the others were 'light ivory'

***
That conversation with Daniel led to my own
minor research on the topic. And here is the
website that has helped me visualize the colors
of the original 911R's. According to them, there
were 4 prototypes built and 20 customer cars.

http://www.pbase.com/archive_racing_porsche/inbox

***
I have seen in person only two 911R's in my lifetime. The first
one was one at the first PCA Parade I ever attended - in 1981-
which was held in Asheville, N.C. It was on displayed at the
massive concours held on the grounds of the Biltmore Estate
built by George Vanderbilt. It was the best Porsche concours
I have ever attended. And nothing has ever equaled it in the
intervening 35 years!

*
The second 911R I saw was #013, which is presently in the
private automotive collection of Jack Croul (former co-owner
of Behr Process Corp) in the vicinity of Newport Beach, Ca.
I visited his automotive warehouse a few years ago & took
these photos:

***
Interestingly enough, this car (#13) appears as 'Slate Grey'
on that list:

I happen to know one of its previous (early) owners, Dirk Layer.
So I will email to see if he can add to our knowledge base on the
original color of this 911R.

***
I also personally know one of the owners of #017.

I will try to contact Peter Kitchak, who has moved to
Napa (California) to start a winery*, to see if he can
add anything to this discussion.
If we have enough interest in the discussion of the
colors of the original 911Rs, perhaps we can start
a dedicated thread on the subject!

As I understood it, 013R was supposed to be or started out in Light Ivory and was a repaint in Slate Grey (I took an interest in this, as I happen to love Slate Grey and Irish Green early 911s—and thus hoped for one 911R to be Slate Grey). I remember Dirk being quoted to the effect of "A 911R is supposed to be white, period." after he painted 013R white, thereby earning infamy in my book until I heard about the ^, and then later met Dirk.

Well, that is interesting to know because
I do think that the current paint status of
013R is actually 'White' & not 'Light Ivory'.
At least that is how I remember it in Jack
Croul's storage garage/warehouse, as you
can see also from the photos that I have
attached. If you are going to repaint back
to how it left the factory, why not go back
to 'Light Ivory'? I haven't discussed this
with Dirk yet...but I will next time I see
him.

http://carsyeah.com/ourportfolio/dirk-layer/

Dirk Layer has mellowed out (like many
of us
) with age. He's moved to near
Solvang (from the LA area) & is 'chilling
out' in the Valle de Santa Inés...which
is 'Santa Ynez Valley' to those of you
familiar with that beautiful old Spanish
Colonial area just north of Santa Barbara!
He is still extremely well connected as a
'car broker', especializing in original/rare
356, early 911 & Porsche race cars!

know from your reporting gives you the most bang for
your money.

I am loving my slightly-used manual transmission 2017
991S with the sport package (rear axle steering, being
the most important) and the Sport Pasm suspension!

I would also love your take on the new .2 991T that
Porsche just announced this week. It's right up your
alley (and mine!).

X3 for more pictures. Green is the best 911 color and from pictures oak presents differently. I would love to hear your impressions.

It’s been a while since we have seen that many new PTS cars (either here or on instagram) when was yours built? From the GT3 forum there should be a number of them built in the fourth quarter.

Too bad no PTS on the 911T .... LWBs and RSD on a non-GT car and a base at that. Tastey.

Many thanks, Eduardo. It is indeed a Carrera. Only 120 miles in, so it's a little premature for reflections. But I can share a few pics as well as my order logic.

This car has roots in Tenerife, where the 991.2 Carrera/S launch took place. I was shocked by how good the new Carrera was—to the point I thought about canceling my GT4 order. A loaded 991.2S I tested was very competent, but a Carrera 7MT coupe simply blew me away. It felt not only fast, but alive/keen/fun. It was in the steering, damping, and polish. And the torque was a welcome addition.

You can read more about that here:
https://www.pca.org/news/2015-11-10/...updates-wvideo

And see the lasting impression it left here (search page for "Don’t tell anyone, but" to skip to the bit about the 991.2 Carrera):
https://petrolicious.com/articles/00...ctions-therein

I'm glad I didn't skip the GT4, but two 2-seaters aren't gonna work in this season of life—my daily needs back seats. Which brought thoughts back to the 991.2. The only models with a manual and four seats were Carreras. So: S or GTS...or Carrera with special options? More and more hp isn't all that interesting to me, and my one regret with my GT4—given my preference for silver wheels AND clean wheels—was skipping PCCB. So PCCB was first on the list. Next up was color. I thought about GT Silver, Graphite, or Agate, but PTS offered a chance to do something special. Though I like some of the bright PTS colors, particularly Signal Yellow, I wanted to take a different route. I fell in love with dark green 911s thanks to an article in R&T with a 964 Turbo and Ruf CTR—both dark green. Dark green Alpinas made a big impression, too. Years later, when I started writing about and photographing Porsches, dark gray and dark green 911s were my favorite. 1960s Slate Gray, 1990s Slate Gray Metallic, 1960s Irish Green, 1980s Forest Green Metallic, 1970s Oak Green, etc. Then I learned about their historical significance. I liked that, too. But I've been getting "grayed out" lately, so I narrowed it down to two greens: Brewster or Oak. A tough choice, but where I like solids on the GT4, I prefer metallics on the 991. So Oak it was.

Next up was what to do about the interior. But, in a nod to Eduardo's way of telling a story on RL, more to come…

Oak really does present differently. It almost looks like Malachite Green (997) in the pics above, but doesn't look like that in person, looking grayer. The best representation is in the pic with the GT4. It is lighter in bright sun than expected—really lighting up on the highlights, then plunging into a dark green elsewhere.

Vehicle completion on 9/01. Saw a couple of PTS cars around Zuffenhausen when I was there two weeks ago, including a Signal Yellow 991.2 GT3 in the Porsche Museum parking garage.

Agree on too bad about no PTS on the 911T, though we may see a window on that next year. Have to admit I am a bit wistful about taking delivery this weekend and missing the T's SPASM, LSD, lower gearing, and other touches—but sticking my dealer with such a uniquely optioned Carrera wouldn't be cool, and a T with PCCB and other options on my car would run $126k. Perhaps some T bits will make their way onto this car if it proves to be a longterm keeper.

Whatever you do, don't ask Mooty for advice on
whether or not to 'stick it' to Carlsen....

Not that you would consider it anyway!
