I am not going with the new 991.2

991.2
When you are driving a high end sports car field effeciency is not an issue. It's all about speed, sound, handling and the overall driving experience. The new 991.2 just doesn't give you the whole package. You can spin it all you want but it's just not there. When you have to hire people to computerize the sound in a sports car, you have made a HUGE mistake!! That is what Porsche has done.

And, um, isn't the handling and speed better? So WTF are you talking about? What is missing? Definitely not torque...

if it's just performance turning then you want a vette or a GTR for a lot less money.

Just my opinion. I've read all of the reviews and drove a new 991.2 for two days as a loaner while my 991.1 was in for service. I usually trade every ~3 years for a new 911.
I love my old 2014 911 with it's 3.4L non-turbo engine. I've owned many of them along with the 996.
I see no reason to upgrade at $50k+ to get a newer but inferior car.

I get that some people prefer N/A. But by all means outside of the turbo'd engines.. everything else on the 991.2 is an improvement. Some are pretty major.

I would have respected your statement more if you said there is not a $50K difference between a 991.1 C2 and a 991.2 C2. But to call the new 991.2 inferior.. makes it seem like you just couldnt afford the upgrade and are now looking for a way to justify it.

Handling: The 991.2 handles better and even more so with RWS option.
No need to spin anything. These are facts. Can you explain what is "not there?"
Sound is subjective, but most agree the 991.1 sounds better which is fine. But sound alone doesn't "make the car."
I have no idea what you mean by overall driving experience. What does the 991.2 do worse besides sound? They both share the same 991 platform and interior. Transmissions are very similar with maybe some tweaks to the PDK in the .2 I believe there is better tuned electric power steering in the .2 as well.
Taking sound out totally out of the .1 vs .2 argument, then what is the big issue with the .2? (aside from .1 owners don't own a .2 and feel the need to defend what they own. I GET that you own it and you will ALWAYS be more emotionally and financially invested in what YOU own and that's fine)
I don't understand why there is so much anger against the .2 from the .1 and I've never seen a car make/model specific forum with owners against each other over a model year refresh.
I've owned several Porsche of ALL different types and years: air cooled, air cooled turbo, water cooled, water cooled turbo, GT3 and GT4, coupes, cabs and Targa. I have tracked nearly all of them and the 991.2 I drove @ PEC was amazing on the track. I have modified the exhaust on all of them. I have no issues with the 991.2 turbo engine or the sound. Sure the .2 wasn't loud enough but I've modified every exhaust on every performance car I've owned. I am thrilled with the Fabspeed exhaust package I put on.
Not the best video but sounds like a throaty boxer engine with a some turbo whistle mixed in at times (not me in the video):

.
I enjoy the sound, even more so when the top is down. I'm sorry if you don't but why the need to force your opinion on the sound on everyone else? I don't get what you guys are all on about. I don't ever feel the need to come on to Rennlist and post negative comments about the .1 but it seems like all you .1 guys (esp R_Rated) want to do is **** all over the .2 which really isn't that different from your own .1 (except its faster and handles better )
Where is the mutual Porsche/911 respect? Why is there so much negativity?

Other than sound, the .2 is a better car. Not sure why it's even a debate. I'm still not sold on buying one, but it's definitely a better car than my .1
By the way that Affymetrix exhaust a few posts above sounds awful. And that whistle! That goddam whistle. That would drive me nuts.

Guys.... I never said .2 was inferior nor did I say .1 was better. They are different. I prefer NA engine due to the sound which for me is part of the overall experience. Why can't all you guys just say .2 is different not better. Does one have to be better than the other. I do and will argue that Porsche should not have went to all Turbo engines (GT3 is the exception for now). To go from offering both Turbo and non Turbo to only Turbo is a mistake imo.

Some facts about the 991.2 GTS, thanks to Total911 (I'm expecting delivery of one in July):
1) The most powerful Carrera yet
We’ll say that again, 450hp, that up 30hp on the 420hp Porsche 911 Gen1 GTS it replaces. Astonishingly, that’s just 6hp shy of what the Porsche 959 produced, or, if you want a more contemporary reference, it’s the same power as a 997 Gen2 GT3 RS. Damn. Don’t you just love progress?
2) More torque than a GT3 RS
That hp figure is backed with some substantial twist, the boosted output of the 9A2 engine seeing its torque output increase from 500Nm in a Carrera S, to 550Nm from 2,150rpm right through to 5,000rpm. By comparison a 991 GT3 RS or 911 R only manages 460Nm, and at far higher revs…
3) Quicker than an R, faster than a GT3 RS
The quickest accelerating Porsche 911 GTS is the Carrera 4 GTS Coupe with PDK, it reaching 62mph in a 911 R bettering 3.6 seconds. You’ll not match that outright sprinting ability in the ‘true’ GTS manual Coupe, but with rear-wheel drive it makes the most of its lesser mass, being the fastest, with a quoted top speed of 194mph.
991.2 is a fantastic car.
