I agree with this 100%. I, for one, don't like my 911 to resemble a K(C)ardashian.

I think that's maybe a stretch. I know that 997 GTSs are priced higher than 2011 C2Ss, but have they depreciated less (in raw dollars, not percent) than a low-spec 2011 C2S?

I agree, as indicated in my edited question while you were typing.

And I think the two "depreciation" winners (991.1s with lowest depreciation over mid-term) will be the a) low-option S cars, and b) the high-option-bundle-for-relatively-low-cost GTS cars.

The first because everybody knows that options depreciate faster than the basic car in the short and mid-term. (Obviously not under special circumstances and over the long term, i.e. the Crossflow dual carb option on a 69 Z28 or the Hemi option on a 71 Barracuda or Webasto heater on a 356.) So, if you have relatively few fast-depreciating options on your 991S, it should depreciate slower than the majority of 991Ss which have medium to high numbers of options.

And the second group for the same reason, except when you start with options that are sold cheaper than usual in the first place they'll tend to not depreciate as fast. (i.e., X51, widebody, CLs, SportDesign nose and a few other automatic options all priced for less than X51 as a standalone option on a C2S.)

Wildcard: if sometime in the next 20+ years something (anything) causes the 991 to become increasingly prized in general, then you could begin to see some sort of appreciation of the top-spec cars at a higher-than-reasonable rate vis-a-vis the regular cars. Such as we've seen over the past decade with long-hood 911s; all have risen substantially, Es by a lot more than their original greater price vs. Ts would suggest, S by more than the price delta over E would suggest, and RS ditto vs. S.

In (general) numbers that looks something like this:

Model....Cost 1973.....Cost 2015
911T.....5500.............$40,000
911E......6200.............$65,000
911S......7000.............$125,000
911RS....11,000...........$400,000

I have no idea when water pumpers will experience this same resurgence, but they surely will. Even the most unloved 911s have eventually become sought after: SWB pre-69s; G-Series 74-77s, 964s. It will happen to 996s eventually (996GT3, GT2 and Turbo arguably already there).

But almost certainly, when it happens to the 991s the price deltas between the various model hierarchies will be greater than warranted by the actual differences between the models. That's just how collectors are. Is a 427 Hemi Cuda really worth a half-million more than a 440-Six-Pack Cuda for its marginally greater performance?

Is it for dd with a lot of city driving? If yes, the newer turbo would be great. Otherwise, gts all the way.

Whether the car keeps its value or depreciates are irrelevant 😋

To borrow a quote from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, "You have chosen wisely". It might not be as fast as the new 991.2 or handle as well with RWS but it will put a smile on your face every time you fire up that engine and hear the glory of the 3.8 L engine sing. And, does it sing. Also, love that you bought a MT. IMO, only way to go. It is a keeper. I hope you never sell it. I do not plan on selling mine and I hope my daughter will enjoy it long after I am gone from this world. Enjoy it in good health and make it a daily driver. Life is too short not to enjoy it.

Thanks guys. I really love the car (perfect build for me) and the deal was very attractive financially too. Things often happen in life for a reason - I had come close to buying few other cars or some had been bought by others before I could make a commitment. Once I saw this opportunity, I acted fast and locked it in.

My 17-year old son and I drove the GTS 700 miles back to CT (he drove almost half of the way). Despite the long drive, it was a blast - the 3.8 NA engine does sing. I intend to keep this beauty forever.

Gorgeous car! You'll be happy with I am sure, but I had to laugh at "I intend to keep this beauty forever." I've said that about 30 times....

Lol!

When I picked up my current 991.1S (insanely loaded, orig MSRP 172k, powerkit, PCCBs, aero kit cup, etc - my dream car), I said to my wife that I would never, ever sell this car.

My wife replied, "That's what you said the last time," referring to my previous 991.1S I bought two years ago.

I think she is on to me!
