Gas tank pads/firewall squeaking -- service bulletin info anyone?
According to many posts in different threads there is a service bulletin that details how pads between gas tank and firewall can move due to bad glue, causing tank to come in contact with firewall, causing a squeaking noise behind dash/in footwell (especially in hot weather/full tank).
Dealer states cannot find the bulletin.
No thread I have seen has a specific reference to this service bulletin -- many simply state that it exists, but no direct reference.
I have a noise that has developed that seems to be just this. I would be super appreciative if anyone has a reference for this service bulletin.
Thank you.

Check out this thread on the Planet 9 forum:

Several 991 owners have posted there with similar problems & fixes. Doesn't appear to be a TSB.

Thank you. Yes, that is one of the threads which mention a service bulletin.
I am trying to get to the references to the service document so that dealer can find it.
These pads that are ordered by service departments for the fix must come from some information somewhere.

I looked, and still do. Check PM.
Note that the disassembly of half the front of the car is crazy talk.
Dropping front under panel and tank protection tray will allow fairly easy access to the spots to put pads in. I no longer have that car, but it was dead silent after inserting the pads for two years. What a relief if it was!

Hi fbroen, mind PM'ing me that TSB, too? It sounds like an easy task from what you've described, and I'd be willing to take pics as I do it myself and post them on the forum.

I had this problem and finally was able to re-produce it for the service department when I realized it only happened when the tank was more than half full and when it was warm outside and/or when the car was warmed up. The service department recognized it as SB 1403 and made the repairs under warranty. Took a couple of days, actually. Problem has been totally resolved since then (knock on wood).
Come to think of it, I have had 4 issues with my 2016 991.1 GTS that required fixing: 1) The cab roof seam was splitting. Replaced with a new one under warranty. 2) The PCM went haywire and required replacement. Took about 2 weeks to get it replaced under warranty as they had to get a new one from Stuttgart, including the six CD changer for the Burmester. 3) The squeaky gas tank (that was the most annoying of all - took me months to figure out what would reproduce the squeak, in order for me to prove to the SA that there actually was a squeak). 4) The plastic hose for the front windshield sprayer broke in the area where it enters the hood. Replaced under warranty.

I’m facing this now... thought it was my lower control arm ball joints so replaced them... only to find out they’re perfectly fine LOL
Then started poking around, and when i push the fuel tank from underneath, it has that annoying styrofoam squeak!
Can’t find the TSB anywhere. Have you had any luck?
Thinking of just stuffing a bunch of rubber and foam around the tank to see if it helps... driving me nuts.

There may be two things to address specific to Fuel Tank noises.... There is some sound insulation foam between the tank and the cabin wall that seems to shift or the tank rubs against which is the usual culprit - but then there are something like 15 foam pieces around the fuel tank! The other possibility is to check the two straps that hold the tank in place on the tray. If those get "loose" at all, they could also be causing the noise when you push up on the tank.
Good Luck!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ATTENTION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The problem is the gas tank shield (plastic) and gas tank (plastic) move against each other when the ambient temp is high and especially when the tank if full.
THE FIX:
1) Jack the front of the car up
2) Remove the front most plastic cover
3) Find the seam between the plastic gas tank shield and the gas tank
4) Saturate the gas tank shield with silicon lubricant. Make sure it comes out the other side.
DONE
OMG, you guys had me looking at the silly foam pads and considering removing the tank.
