The comment about the power kit was just plain stupid. Other than the price there is no negative. Also, the .2 was a PDK vs the .1 MT. You may not want a PDK but I assure you that if you step on it the PDK will pull away. I applaud his effort but it wasn't apples to apples. I would love to repeat the comparison with a .1 PDK and power kit (or at least PDK vs PDK).

It's because Porsche is pumping more intake noise into the cabin on the .2. They'd said as much publicly. The sound inside the car is not the sound outside the car.

Wow, based on that video I think the .2 sounds absolutely awful. And the whine when it spools up is much more noticeable than I expected. The .1 sounds fantastic by comparison.

I read that the 991.2s have 2 symposer as opposed to the 1 the 991.1s have. Perhaps that's why it's louder inside.

The .2 is a real-world noticeably faster car. The .1 sounds louder and better and delivers its power in an arguably more rewarding way.

I reckon everyone wins.

based on this statement you're just full of bull lol...I'll be the first to admit that the .1 sounds better in person but the cars don't sound that far apart in the video

The powerkit was a very expensive option, some might say absurdly expensive, that didn't add much value relative to its price. Look at the torque curve. It was good for bench racing but it didn't really make the car more fun to drive in most real-world contexts.

What you gain in top end HP, you give up in mid-range torque.

So unless you're spending most of your time above 7k, the X51 adds little to daily or even spirited (e.g. canyon carving) driving, and given the loss of mid range torque, there very well can be a case made that the X51 creates rather significant downsides.

Wow! You guys are tough!
I really don't care for excessive noise in the cabin.
My 981B is very quiet without SE when the top is up, which i like.
As to turbo lag, whine, I could care less.
My 991.2 C4S is a daily driver.
So you can kiss my black quad tailpipes as you watch me go by you either on the road or track!
-Richard
BTW, my first order of business when picking up the vehicle today is to find and block the tubes piping noise into the cabin.

Just for the record my C2S PowerKit has NA lag. Don't all cars have lag. Unless maybe an electric.

The difference in fun driving is very noticeable. The power kit has a significant extra rush to the top of the rev range. For "normal" driving, there is not much a difference between a 911 and a Prius.

Well stated. The .2 is so obviously faster that the .1 that anyone who is concerned with that has to pick other nits. We've been through that with the PDK vs manual religious wars. Porsche don't care- it'll satisfy the market and sell both and in addition charge the GT3 non-track types 50K more for a stripped manual version of the GT3 RS. Next will be a carbon fiber aftermarket wing for them at the price of a basic Boxster, er.. 718.

But I found the symposers a non issue. They are totally unobtrusive in the .2 unlike the .1 where it is open and sort of sings one boring note at constant revs, the ones in the .2 stay closed at the low end of the rev range. Given the long gearing for all practical purposes, they add intake sounds only as the car is wailing up the gears.

I don't know what video you're watching, but they sound like two entirely different cars. If you mixed those in with sound clips from 10 other cars, I'd bet you nobody would be able to match the two 991s. Even if you removed that awful spool up whine, they sound entirely different.

I didn't say that they sound the same, but to say that the .2 sounds "awful" in this video while .1 sounds "fantastic" is just grossly exaggerating

I traded a 13 C2s cab for my 991.2 C2S coupe. Although I only pick it up next Tuesday, from what I have read the .2 is undisputely the better performer. Many .1 owners are nitpicking the sound and non existing turbo lag to justify the fact they now own a lesser car.

The same thing happened when the 993 was replaced by the 996 and the 997.1 was replaced by DFI and PDK 997.2. No one disputes today that each successive model was better than the previous. The 991.2, like all its' predecssessorcs will be akcknowdged as the best in its' day.

So .1 owners, it's time to suck it up. There's a new boss in town.
