Best thing Porsche did with the 991, they made the sunroof optional. Yes of course it would have been better still to eliminate it entirely. I notice the GT3RS doesn't have one. A Singer with a sunroof? I don't think so. At the sharp end, it seems, there is no confusion what a 911 is all about.

But Porsche has to sell a lot of cars to a lot of people. Compromises must be made.

They designed the sunroof to solve the buffeting problem

Have one on my 5-series.
We use it mostly as a "moonroof"

Where I live it's too hot to drive in an open top and even with sunroof open its quite uncomfortable.

Hate it, hate it, hate it......unfortunately unless you order one without the sunroof from the factory, it is just impossible to find one without it in the used market. To me the sunroof is a source of irritation of generating rattles and buzzes in an otherwise stiff and solid chassis. Not to mention by adding weight at the worst possible location on the top of the roof.

My current 991.2S has no sunroof... initially thought I would miss it but the lack of any rattle and the sense of rigidity over bumps make it all worthwhile...
Love the clean roof lines as well. My previous 991.1S was well built but there was always a niggling sound/creak here an there in the sunroof area over bumps... drove me crazy.
Also helps if you have another car with with a roof/convertible for sunny days....

Car feels tight and made of one piece, maybe it's the RWS but feels much more together than the 991.1S with sunroof I had before, both are pdcc/spasm.

For my DD cars, I do not need a sunroof at all especially since I live in a humid tropical country. But for weekend fun cars, I would love to have one whenever available as I enjoy the open roof and windows especially on early Sunday morning runs.

But sadly, Porsche in my area doesn't bring in sunroof equipped models unless it's a custom build order.

The only time I have regretted not having a sunroof was earlier today when I read a post about a user cracking his sunroof to get a better soundtrack of the exhaust. I do that whenever I drive my wife's BMW to hear the crackles and burbles in sport mode.

Otherwise, I'm not a sunroof person, see them as one other part to fail, leak, or make noise, and I like the extra headroom if I wear a helmet for a track day.

I don't have one because I hate the rattles. I love not having one.

Back in my 996 days I upgraded from a 99 aerokit to to an 04 Gt3 without the wife’s approval/knowledge. About 6 months later she was like I could have swore this car had a sunroof.

I have one and never open it but I like how it looks.

Pro's:
  • Glass makes cabin feel more open and bright
  • You get a nice contrasting black roof

Con's:
  • Weight
  • Some complain of rattles (I haven't experienced this)

Just picked up my 2018 last week not an order but in dealer inventory. I have always enjoyed sunroofs in most of my vehicles I particularly enjoy the tilt position in the cooler weather as it gives you great air circulation, The black glass on a white vehicle looks great. Either way what a fantastic vehicle

I'm a cab guy so....

On my daily driver, I smoke cigars on long hauls - which is a lot. Tilt the back of the sunroof up and it sucks all the smoke out instantly. You cannot smell the cigar smoke in my car. This is likely not a consideration for most but just sharing my thoughts. Even if I wasn't a cigar person - I like having the fresh air.

If you're tracking (outside of the best option to get another, dedicated car) then maybe but unless someone is paying you for lap times, I'd bet a lot of money you couldn't feel the weight. The weight discussion taking place online is as productive as debating 2 different cars with theoretical planned mods on different drag strips under different conditions.

Like a sunroof? Get a sunroof.

Every car that I have owned for the past 15 years have had a sunroof. Can't imagine having a car without one.

My 991.2 Coupe had a normal sunroof (not the glass one and I still use it a lot...) but I was missing some much the openness, that I decided to move to a cabrio. I don't really track my cars so a coup,e of pounds more don't make a difference for me. It's all about the enjoinment while I'm driving around the city and for that I need to see some sun. But I also understand that for other this might not work..... to each its own.

When I bought my wife a Hybrid Cayenne, I ordered the full panoramic sunroof and I must say that all the family likes it.
