HOT FOR SALE: Pick of the Week 991
help!
I need a price check please:
Car is privately owned locally.
2012 991 C2S Cab
32k miles
performance option build: all performance options; 7MT, PDCC, Adaptive sport seats, Sport Chrono, Sport Exhaust. It also has some frilly stuff, like Burmester, Premium Plus package. $133k build.
Car is 8.5/10. Not in awesome shape, about what you would expect given the mileage and the fact we have a lot of rock on the roads here, due to winter sanding. It hangs around all year. Interior 8.5/10. Mechanically, all services up to date.
Seller is at $66,500; exactly 1/2 of retail.
Does this seem like a reasonable buy? This isn't my "dream" car, but it would be fun to own, and I am looking for something I drive for a couple of years, maybe put 12,000 miles on it, enjoy immensely, and sell without losing $20k in depreciation. I have always been more of a coupe guy, but I don't think a cab would exactly suck.
I haven't driven it, but saw the car last weekend at a PCA drive.

That's what I would call a typically nice machine and good price, assuming the buyer likes the options (we all have different preferences), it has a clean CarFax and checks out. It might even sell for less money. It does sound worth investigating. 991.2 prices have moved up substantially. Lots of 991.1 bargains out there right now, for those willing to look...

I've tried to like these cars enough to buy one, but as I said in my original post, for me, the value just isn't there. I'm pretty happy with my 981 Spyder, and I have an allocation for a GT3 manual. Along with my Shelby GT500 and Jeep, once I have the GT3, I'm feeling pretty complete. But truthfully, the performance of the base Carrera now is so good, that I'm considering going this route instead. But I just can't see my way to buying a really nice used 991.1 right now, especially something like a GTS, at the current values. Now, in two or three years, when they get down into the 50 or 60 thousand range, then we might be talking. They're great cars, but my whole point is, right now, the values are still too high for me to justify buying one, when the new base Carrera is so good. Thanks.

I think he means that 991.1 prices have moved up a lot, while Porsche raised the MSRP of the .2’s up a lot as well.
Edit: Maybe it was a typo and he was simply stating that 991.1 prices have moved up substantially (which of course, is a fact). Both are true though.

Correct. Porsche continues to raise prices EVERY year. This does also indeed support a strong resale market which they also want.
Now .... question is, how long can you keep raising prices before hurting sales? I think they’ve slowly started to see that with the 718 and 991.2 Carrera’s. Add 4cy engines and turbo charging, you’re just competing against one of the many lower priced competitors.
Talk about huge increases, look at what they’re doing with the GT models. Unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Big $$ increases on base price and options. In that case, high demand and low production can support it for now.
Once the economy slows down (which I think is starting now), all sales will suffer including pre-owned.

20 pre-owned very low mileage .2 S’s between $100K-$115K on cars.com out of 60 total cars for sale in S model.
We have a 991.2 pre-owned thread. Better discussion there. I just bumped the thread:

Off to finding some pre-owned 991.1’s NOW

Very Rare 991.1
The rarest 991.1 by far, and possibly the rarest street legal Porsche not in the Porsche museum...
I was really really excited when I opened an email with this one in it, until I saw the price. :-(
