Personally, I entirely agree with you- there's no way I wouldn't have it over leather covering the back side of a seat.
It's a car...it is designed to be driven...so I drive it every chance I get! . It gets better gas mileage than my other two SUVs lol...

Maybe if I bought it new I would worry more - just another reason to buy CPO and drive it like Dr Porsche meant for it to be driven.

ACC is an example of something that frustrates me about car companies. It's one of those things, like backup cameras & parking sensors, that is just so obvious. Like you say, once you experience ACC you realize that regular cruise control is stupid and that this is actually the way it's supposed to work. So the fact that it continues to be a $2500 option >10 years after it became available is a ridiculous decision from a product UX perspective. In my world of software where all things are free, we would just make it the default behavior because it's the right thing to do for the customer. Fortunately for backup cameras, the govt has decided they're a safety feature and mandated their inclusion. If ACC were somehow similarly required on every new car, there's no way all cars would jump in price by 2 grand. Economies of scale and all that.

Instead, ACC falls into the "business decision" category and they figure since you're spending $100+k on a car they can stick you for another 2 grand. I am very familiar with this business technique as I have built a few houses & dealt with contractors. The R&D fees on the actual tech must have been paid off long ago.

With that said, I still didn't order it on my GTS since I was already in for about $155k and wasn't going to let Porsche nickel and dime me further on a car I don't intend to drive that much on the freeway. If ACC was full auto-drive, I might be willing to pony up.

It's an interesting discussion...think of it as an intermission as we find other HFS cars to post about!

I don't really understand the reasoning behind this statement.

Sure, 991s are expensive. Very few people have the means to own one. But if you do, why is it not your daily driver? Doesn't that imply letting an expensive car sit in the garage and paying for another car to drive daily? Isn't that more expensive?

The reasons that make sense to me for letting a 991 sit revolve around non-financial things. Like maybe being uncomfortable about driving it in the snow or something.

Well, this thread would not exist without the garage queens and depreciation. So, I do encourage new owners to keep their cars as garage queens

Thank goodness for those that keep low miles and flip their cars a lot!

Agreed! What else would we do without the "hunt"?

Well I have some observations about this. First, which should be pretty obvious, the cost PER MILE goes down significantly the more you drive the car.

However that's not the whole story. I've spent quite a few years where a Porsche was my only car, and it can be quite irritating. For example, waiting days (or weeks?) for some stupid little special order part from Germany when any ordinary car would have had it stocked locally isn't fun on your only car.

So assuming you have two cars now, yes as you driver the other car more and the Porsche less, your costs should become a little cheaper. However, if you're sticking to the scheduled maintenance, if you start driving under 10k/yr, you start to burn those expensive maintenance schedules before they're due. So costs can be saved by driving the other car up to around half time (depending on the mileage you drive), more than that there's no point.

2012.5 C2S 991.1 COUPE with just over 3K miles!!

Great price point for a barely driven car. There should be a HFS brother out there who this car is perfect for.

$45K off MSRP & nicely optioned. Have them add CPO? Don't see it mentioned.

Tried to post this yesterday (as my first Rennlist post ever) but it was showing message was to be approved and it never showed up.

I have a deposit on this vehicle as I learned of it through my connections at dealer. It was a lease turn-in and kept by an owner who has multiple vehicles I was told. Found an indoor car cover and a battery tender connection in the front storage area. Looks and drives as a nearly new car should. Only issue is some deep scrapes in the front bumper cover and it will likely need refinished as wet sanding/buffing not an option.

Been lurking a few months here and missed a recent 2013 Aqua Blue 4S this same dealer had about a month ago as I pondered for one day and it was gone. Am hopeful this one will make up for it.

Considering this example as my daily driver for a 52 mile mostly freeway commute in Houston.

Thanks especially to STG and the others on here for your regular contributions. I have been an Audi guy for quite some time and will retain those but was thinking it is time to give the 911 a try.

Nice build, too. And with that low of miles, should feel almost brand-new!

2015 991S. No PPP or PSE but otherwise looks like a good price at $85k.

Been for sale for a while now. Price to MSRP ratio is a bit high for HFS, mainly because it is such a lightly optioned car. Shame, because I really like the color.

At this point it has bounced around to a few Carmax locations, originally in California, and now in Arizona apparently. Could be an indicator of issues, considering each transfer cost somebody some small amount of money.

^^^ Carmax will need more than a $30K discount to move it. They should try another -$10K.
