Do any sales tax and govt fee homework before making an offer, then make your offer price "out the door". If out of state keep your own tax situation in mind. That's what I did in three CA purchases and an IL purchase. It sets clear expectations and gives you a reference point you can return to if/when the add-ons come later when the docs show up. It also kinda sorta forces them to "reveal" those fees earlier in the price discussion.

For many years now I ask about dealer fees before talking price, and announce that I will under no circumstances write a check for more than what was disclosed at that time.

In MA I pay sales tax, excise tax etc myself. If the dealer mandates they do the registration for you they have to include that price. Otherwise I am free to do my own registration.

It helped that I was leasing recently, it is actually forbidden to divert from the announced runoff price on lease advertising except for government monies.

Surprised this is still for sale ..
I emailed this dealership. I asked about CPO, and this was their response:

"...please note that this 911 is a Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle. All Porsche Approved CPO Vehicles complete a 111-point inspection performed by a Porsche trained technician, and has additional warranty coverage as well. The warranty expires Feb. 4th, 2020 or 100k miles (whichever occurs first)."

They are asking $85k. What do you think you would try to buy it for?

I'd try and push as close to $80K as possible.

Anyone want to buy my C2S?
Did you call them and walk away with a $55K GTS?

The link was dead, so they either caught the error, or someone was faster than me.

My wife is awesome, but I can't imagine explaining how I bought ANOTHER 911 less than five months after buying my C2S; she would lock up the iPad and ban me from RL

Big problem in Colorado as well... Virtually all dealers, new and used, have a $500-$1,000 "delivery and handling" fee that they tack on. It's caused some additional laws to protect the consumer...
  1. They must charge the identical fee to everyone and never waive it! Non-negotiable. (But of course it doesn't mean they can't discount the car an additional amount equaling the d&h).
  2. They must have signs all over the dealership and all negotiating tables stating the amount of d&h that will be added.
  3. Just recently added: Any advertised price must include the d&h, online, print, email, wherever.

Not that big of an issue once you understand the process... I just make sure every offer I make at a dealer is "...including d&h, excluding sales tax". Make sure you do the same if negotiating with any Colorado dealer.

This is what I get for selling my 993...

STG amazing thread, what am I getting for the 60-65k that my wife will let me spend? Can I find a C2/C4 with PDK and options with under 24k in that range? I was happy with the power in my 993 and the 997's I have driven, assume base C2/C4 is enough for me. Have two kids 5-7 so figure a bit more room wouldn't hurt.

The very best-deal first-year C2S 991's without high miles seem to be hitting mid 60's, very occasionally low 60's. C4S's typically have higher stickers and weren't offered in the first year, so they get a double-bump in price. A ton of nice C2S cars in the 70K range.

Best deal first-year C2 non-S without high miles seem to be hitting low 60's, with some dipping down into mid 50's. Again, no C4 models first year...

Moving to newer cars, super low miles, super-high original price, and cars with CPO all bump the price.

Bottom line a very nice 2012.5 C2, PDK Sport Chrono, under 30K miles under $64K shouldn't be too hard to find. I've seen several in the past few months...

As for C2 vs C2S, personal preference. For no terribly logical reasons, I like C2 manuals just fine, but prefer the S when coupled with PDK. If you do go PDK, Sport Chrono is really important if you don't want lazy PDK shifting and can't be added on 991's.

Don't know if you want a cab, but here's an example... A bit higher mileage than your spec but also a pretty high original sticker...

VIN: WP0CA2A98DS141105
Model: 2013 C2 Cabriolet
Miles: 30,000
Sticker: $114K
Price: $62K (46% depreciation)
