There are too many 911s out there to buy one involved in a serious accident, if you’re an enthusiast, and you probably are if you’re on this site.

Run as far and as fast as you can. Sounds like a disaster. Maybe worth $65k. Maybe.

I have a line on a 2015 (991) manual, sport chrono, SportDesign Package, Premium Package Plus, Sapphire Blue over black, single-owner 4S that looks like a pretty good deal at ~$84k and just under 30k miles on it.
Dealer link here in case anybody else wants to snake it...
My concern is that the Carfax shows accident damage that involved airbag deployment.
Looked at it in person today, and it doesn't show anything obvious, but the car is sitting outside (it is at a not-Porsche dealership and has been rained and snowed on) so the paint isn't exactly easy to evaluate.
100% of the service had been done at a local Porsche dealership, so I'm guessing they handled the repairs, but the Carfax report isn't fully clear on that.

Specifically, Carfax says:
Accident reported: moderate damage
  • Involving front or side impact with another motor vehicle
  • Damage to right front
  • Damage to front
  • Damage to right rear
  • Damage to right side
  • Disabling damage reported
  • Front airbag deployed
How much should one worry about a post-accident 911?

Problem is that I'm also not really paid Porsche money. Used is the only way I can swing it and feel financially comfortable with the deal, and it's hard to find a spec I like because I'm a little picky and 911s have so many options.

In a perfect world I'd go order one and do euro delivery... maybe in another decade?

General rule of thumb is buy the newest car in the best condition you can afford. Perhaps you should be looking at 997.2s, or even a pristine 997.1 w/the IMS done.

The problem with a car with history is that it has a higher risk of not working as intended (in which case you're wasting your money not getting the real Porsche experience) or breaking more often (which you couldn't afford to fix if you're stretching to buy the car). Buying a used Porsche if that's what you can afford is fine, but if you can't afford anything but a car with history, look at another type of car. It's OK to wait a few more years to get what you really want... life is long and things like this can be motivators!

Don't be afraid to buy something with higher mileage either, as long as it has a documented maintenance history. These cars are built very well.

Yeah, I've had seat time in a 996 4S, a 997 T4S, and a 997 GT3RS (on a private day at Nelson Ledges no less)... I just like new tech which is why I was looking at 991s.
I guess a 997's radio can probably swapped for something aftermarket to add better tech, though...

I’d say if you’re concerned with the stereo, perhaps a 911 isn’t the car for you. It’s literally the very last thing I’d ever worry about in one of these cars. Try a BMW. May suit you just fine

If you don't have the Porsche money to buy, then you need to be more careful of how you spend it. Not only could this car be a nightmare of additional costs during ownership because of the accident, but when you try to sell it down the road, you will see that dealerships and Porsche enthusiasts are going to offer you a lot less money than the current values. The carfax will always be the dark cloud hanging over this car. So in turn, any money you think you might save now, you could lose during ownership or when you sell it. In other words, there is a reason the car is selling for this price.

not really a fair thing to say at all. BMW stereos aren’t even very good.

Considering this one in the Denver area (local to me). Like others, only thing holding me
back is the question of if this same car will be $75k in 6 months.

If you were better at timing the market than others you'd be able to afford a garage full of new Porsches from all your stock market earnings! It's true the market has definitely cooled in the past couple months, but what it's going to do a month from now let alone 6 months is anybody's guess. Is it more likely than not that prices are coming down some more? Yeah, probably. But how deep and for how long is anybody's guess.

If you only plan on having the car for 6 months, then yeah, it's a concern. But if you plan on having it longer, just expect normal depreciation curves for however long you plan on having the car (check 991.1 prices as a reference). Over time it'll even out.

Default This blue car has been for sale forever. Pass!

I agree that this is a $65 K car, no more.

no doubt about that! I sold my 997 damn near the bottom of the market in early 2020 only to watch them shoot up. Not losing sleep over it, and certainly don’t expect any car to retain, much less go up in value over time, but I can wait 6 months to save $15k. We’ll see…going to drive the car this week.

hey guys, whenever i try to use VIN Analytics it says advance decoding required. Have they changed the tool? Do you have to pay every time now to see MSRP and all the spec?
