For those who are unfamiliar with the color facets of the graphite cars here is a good example no photo edits just the right light conditions. Car often looks army green then blueish and purple. Chameleon

It would have been cheaper to order my 991-50 in the UK, not to speak of MSRP in the US...

That's typically Belgium!

When we register a car we only get the rear plate. One has to go to a shop where you can have a front license plate made (or make it yourself with stickers). This driver probably delivered the wrong number when he got out to buy his new front plate.

If you see something like this, the rear plate is always the right one, as it has the DIV-stamp.

Another riddle for me was the US sales, based on Porsche sales figures for 991 in 2013, 679 cars should have made their way to US but only 599 were allocated so what happened to the missing 80 cars? If anything US should have consumed more cars, they had the best value in the world and even X51 thrown in so what gives? On the other hand there are not many markets that can absorb such qty. Now I have some info that 150 cars were allocated to China, that's 58 more than their sales would have justified!

Apparently the base price for 50th anniversary cars in China is $353,000 which is of course without the standard north American X51 inclusive option meaning that the Chinese paid almost 3x what US customers paid. Big chunk of that is due to local taxes but I am sure Porsche also enjoys the highest profit margin in China.

I suspect a similar trend in some European markets with cars headed to new world markets.

Such shift in 50th sales (west to east) is a little surprising as I didn't expect such appreciation for a retro model in new markets but then it could also be due to the "limited edition" & exclusivity tag.

Of course none of this is verified so actual figures could be different as deliveries are still being made through to July. Hopefully we can get some allocation figures from other major markets such as Germany & UK in order to get a better picture.

Only Porsche knows actual data so these are just estimates and for main markets I expect the actual figures to be not far of these figures ie approx. +/-10%. Some forum members have already said 600 for US, 50 for Canada & 30 for Belgium & I know UK had 120 deliveries of 40th anni which of course was same ww numbers, 1963 but UK had a bigger portion of 911 than it does today due to emergence of new markets for Porsche. Therefore the figures can not be too far off the actual numbers.

I am trying to figure out the exact number of 50th anniversary cars produced. It appears that Porsche made more than 1963 and call the rest pre-production and number them 0000 as per the two that are at Porsche museum, a geyser with "S GO 1963" plates and a Graphite with "S VM 1963" plates and we know they are pre-production due to their limited edition number 0000. There is however another two that have appeared in Porsche media advertising and brochures, the Graphite one is not actually a 50th anniversary car as it lacks all the brightworks and Fuchs wheels, yet it is Graphite Grey so maybe a pre pre-production model! The other however is a 50th with all the bells & whistles but I have not seen it in any other picture or location other than the published ad from Porsche, does it exist or is it just a case of Porsche putting different number plates on the above geyser? If so does it also have 0000? Are there anymore pre-production cars?

Default S VM 901

Got it, another piece of the puzzle solved. S VM 901 is a physical car as this (on the road) picture shows, its probably another 0000 (pre-production) car. If you ever see any 50th make sure you snap the LE #, number plates, Gearshift lever and roof (to verify type of S/R or lack of) as well as interior trim type.

Little break from all the stats!

Not sure if any of you guys are into 3D printing but if you are this will make your day, a 3D model of 50th.

Wow, it does indeed look purple in that photo. And it can look army green, too?! The graphite grey is far more unique than I realized -- you surely won't find that combination in any other color!

I like the warmer tones of Graphite like this one.

Interesting, it looks shiny there whilst from most pictures the paint looks very flat.

Here is another "shiny" pic, (from LA show) this time with a hint of green as sportscentuary pointed out.
