So it retains the same motor and heavy mounting bracket? How is a duck tail able to go up and down? I’m a bit confused on this one, maybe pics or video of operation would help?

I will take a video for you tomorrow.

These are the steps I followed. With the car parked, I raised the stock spoiler and opened the trunk. There are six silver screw clips on the backside, which I removed. After that, I took off the stock wing. I didn’t touch the motor or any of the mechanism. I mounted the new carbon ducktail spoiler using the same screws and silver clips. As I mentioned earlier, the weight feels about the same—or maybe even a bit lighter than the stock wing. So the original motor and mechanism work just like before. Around 70 mph, the spoiler still raises and lowers as normal.

Attaching other pictures from the eBay postings.

I know this eBay ducktail is off topic, but you might want to code out the spoiler.

First, it looks *ugh* when “up.
Second, the downforce or the effect on drag cannot be good at speed.
Third, might this excessive force potentially break the mechanism?

You do you, I’m very interested in what OP is doing. By the way, do we have an indication of pricing?

Cheers!

WIth ducttail installed, the wing rise function should be disabled, provided that the decktail has improved ram-air design by where the grille ends.

I’d be super interested in seeing how your car performs in the heat after coding out the spoiler to stay down with that eBay ducktail. I’d be concerned about heat soak and the car pulling timing/power. Definitely something to keep in mind to test before going on spirited drives on a hot day.

The biggest problem with most ducktails on .2 cars is the Intercooler flow. As mentioned before, the spoiler rising at speed from the factory on .2 cars acts as an air dam to force air down into the intercoolers. When you code it out for a ducktail that uses the same mount, you lose some of that flow, as in the down position it will not push as much air into the coolers as required.

That is why upcoming options such as Supercroc’s and Moshammer’s both have features in mind intended to solve for this when in the down position—either with a modified scoop like shape, a base that has more flow clearance, or both.

Here’s the Moshammer ducktail prototype for 991.2 Carrera cars. You can see the small scoop they’re exploring to capture some air for the intercoolers at speed.

Im personally more into Supercroc’s more subtle design approach to getting flow, but I can appreciate both!
