It is crazy to me that you can achieve lower IC temps with such a small opening, compared to the visible opening with the current spoiler up…?

Or maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me, and the opening is wide?

If you can imagine yourself as a cubic centimeter of air hitting the vertical wall beneath the wing it is apparent that the intercooler ducts are only one of the many places you can go. Although the square cm. of flow area is smaller (width is a bit greater than the width of the ducting) for the Duck most of the air flow goes through the intercooler ducting. Current effort is aimed at eliminating remaining sources of leakage. Another excellent question that we have spent quite a bit of time considering. I must admit I was very pleasantly surprised to see an increase in intercooler efficiency at the test points obtained.

Nice! I was trying to modify a replica gt2 RS decklid - I’d love lightweight option. Did you fabricate something to replace structure underneath the ducktail?

Post #135 shows component pieces. Intercooler duct is bonded to bottom of Ducktail and then this is attached to the rear mount and baseplate (via CF mounts) taken from the original wing assembly. The ideal (weight wise) solution would be the fabrication of a Carbon Fiber baseplate but this would have increased cost substantially. Might be a project for the next motivated individual.
As mounted, the assembly is very stiff.

Keep in mind that calculating intercooler efficiency is more than simply looking at the temperature drop between input and output.

Intercooler efficiency = (IC input temperature - IC output temperature) / (IC input temperature-Ambient temperature)

Excellent point. Have been recording ambient temps and doing runs at a range of temps to account for this.

Got it, so the air is rammed into the intercooler path. I'm very interested in the progress.

Any more progress update?

Just as a reference, here's the ram-air duct for a 992 Techart ducktail. (grabbed it from this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/992/1162...hread-472.html)

Current Ducktail update. Attending to detail items necessary to achieve production-ready status. Will be making an internal wiring brake light harness for Ducktail to be installed prior to bonding top and bottom sections together. This will make install a bit more Plug and Play. Have purchased Miami Blue paint for the production prototype to be mounted on my car.
As always, comments and suggestions are most welcome, I have thought a lot about this project but suspect I haven't thought of everything.

Hi all, I have joined this forum specifically for this thread. Dot 2 Carrera T owner with a hankering for a duck tail. Please consider offshore customers through this process and thank you for the work you've put into this project.

Default Latest update

Have modified internal ducting with a piece of neoprene to improve sealing. Now down to the last 10% necessary to get to a production item.

A bit of tape on right end of light
A bit of tape on right end of light
Modified front profile from 991.1
Modified front profile from 991.1 Wiring is from thermocouples pre and post intercooler. Good results so far and expect better with new seal.

That looks phenomenal for a prototype. There still are uneven fitments all around the lid. Mind sharing your plan for them? Also any update on the performance metrics? Thanks!

Plan is to produce gaps identical to factory product. Will be discussing changes necessary to mold profile with composites partner next week. No intercooler testing yet but soon. Other operating temps as normal.
Really appreciate everyone's patience.

The ducktail arrived. It is full carbon fiber, super strong, and extremely light. Installation was simple, just plug and play. It goes up and down exactly like the normal wing. Loving the look. Now it is time for paint.
