Apex VS-5RS Wheels
#136
Just ordered a set for my wide body 4S! Anyone have experience with running a wider tire set? Their site recommends the factory spec tires but also has an option of 255/35/20 fronts and 315/30/20 rears.

Before buying these wheels I researched for the weights of both the Apex VS-5RS and the stock 20” Carrera S wheels. I thought I’d put some numbers down for the next person searching for the info. I took the weights myself with a common digital weight scale, while the measurements might be off a bit the difference between the two wheels/tires should be accurate.
Tires Michelin ps4s 245/35/20 and 305/30/20
Stock Carrera S wheels:
20x8.5 no center caps, no valve stems is 25 lbs
20x11.5 no center caps, no valve stem is 29 lbs
20x8.5 with tires/center caps/valve stem is 48.2 lbs
20x11.5 with tires/center caps/valve stem is 60 lbs.
Apex VS-5RS wheels:
20x9 no center caps, no valve stems is 20.2 lbs
20x11.5 no center caps. No valve stems is 22 lbs
20x9 with tires/center caps/valve stems is 43.8 lbs
20x11.5 with tires/center caps/valve stems is 53.8 lbs
Front delta is 4.4 lbs each wheel.
Rear delta is 6.2 lbs each wheels.
I also use RSS wheel spares front and rear.
Front 15mm spacers is 1.24 lbs each
Rears 5mm spacers is 0.24 lbs each
I won’t be running 15mm up front and will instead run the 5mm. The rears will be without spacers.
My front delta will be 5.5 lbs each wheel
My rear delta will be 6.44 lbs each wheel
I’m waiting for my ceramic coat kit to be delivered so I can coat them before putting them back on the car.

It has been lowered and adjusted so many times, I’ve forgotten where stock was.
This is lowered, but I do go slightly lower again when tracking.

So I know my order is backordered and it's only been 22.5 hours but........have they shipped yet?
(Currently stressing over tire choice and already placed order for OEM "T" centre caps.)

I'm running two sets of wheels right now, and Bay Area weather has me on the existing N-spec PS4S on one set with all-seasons on the other—but I am thinking about N-spec Cup 2s when the PS4S wear out...

What's your realistic use case for this set of wheels, TM? And will you keep a different set of tires on the stock wheels?

The stock wheels had a new set of PS4S Michelins mounted in the spring. I'll keep those for the cooler seasons though I generally keep the car in the garage late November to late February (the local municipality is absolutely in love with liquid de-icer!). Being a Porsche wheel-geek, I enjoy switching up wheels......we don't always wear the same shoes right?
EDIT: No track use other than perhaps a few Auto-x. Like the PCCBs on my WANT list, Cup 2s of any kind are likely overkill for my use case but.....why not?

I'm going to mount Cup 2s on the Apex wheels when they arrive (hopefully early spring). Still determining whether to go with the "N-spec" versions or the Connect 240. This set of wheels & tires will be used the majority of the time late spring to late summer. I've heard Cup 2s are a lot "friendlier" these days and I guess I'll be finding out.

One thing to look at in determining which Cup 2s is the detailed specs on Tire Rack, and specifically the tread widths between the N-spec version and the Connect 240s. IIRC, you'll see Porsche's input in the tread widths, and it has had me going N-spec these last 5 years (admittedly for an assumed performance or tuning gain per Weissach's input as well as the visuals…the N-spec Michelins just look right to me, whether judged against the PZeros on my first 991.2 C2 or various aftermarket offerings).
Still thinking about Cup 2s for the Apexes with the next go round, but it'll probably be a while as I just replaced the front PS4S. I really liked the Cup 2s as everyday tires on a GT4 over two years & 14,000 miles here in Northern California, for the majority of the year anyway.
