2) When you attempted installation of the item
3) When you modified the item
4) When you alerted 2M that the item did not fit
no damage to the mesh. the mesh inside of one of the spacers did blow out of the tailpipe the first time the car went on the dyno however.

I'm seeing about 10%, tops, of the mesh on one of the units. I dunno man, could be broken along the edge or in the middle somewhere, allowing a clear path through that you aren't seeing.
