Is $100k at auction with a buyers premium for a 5 year old non-exotic car really "softening"?
There is nothing truly exceptional about this car and the color (in spite of being very nice) isn't everyone's cup of tea.
The $30k in options were always going to be difficult to recoup and it's not a GTS, Targa or a 7sp manual that folks may fall over themselves for.
There are many standard Carrera S, PDKs out there, so the price is probably just under where it should be..

One data point gives you zero information on the market.

Someone posted about my dealer and their current prices. The prices seen have been that way for well over a year. The change is inventory and age of inventory. On both of these there is a 100% or more increase. I am a regular on their site, been to the dealership probably over a dozen times in the last 12 months, they host summer events, and they store my seasonal tires. One of my examples that the market is softening. I do not expect prices to drop quickly. Dealerships are use to the covid prices and they will try to keep that going.

All opinion and only based on what I see. The only thing that may help keep prices up is if new supply remains empty and people really start to shy away from the covid cars. Quality lacking.

Agreed. It also had the PDK replaced.

Maybe the 991.2s are simply more available?

I think prices for everything will drop relatively quickly over the next six months. While supply is still limited, the indices are down 20%+, interest rates are rising, the expectation of a recession is increasing, and inflation is high. People just have less money for non-essential things. And the people who aren't price sensitive are still after a good deal and won't overpay.

The stock market (and many other indices) will indictate how this all plays out. Prices will drop. Even for 991's.

$100K on a 991.2 with a $140K+ sticker seems soft to me. I bought a 991.2 Targa 4 GTS for $10K under sticker a few weeks ago, for reference (granted I bought mine from a Porsche dealer who just did the 4yr major service and got 2yrs of CPO warranty)... Given the stonk market is down 9% in the past 3 days along with all the other bad economic circumstances, I think prices will continue to soften. It took me 8 months to find a nice Targa 4 GTS at a reasonable price, but I think now you can find one easily.

I was talking to my SA yesterday and he said to expect things to remain as they are for 12-18 months unless something major changes. One interesting fact he told me is that the wiring harness' for Porsche, Mercedes and I think he said BMW, among others, are made in Ukraine. Due to the war, production has declined significantly and they are still having chip issues. Porsche does not expect to be back to full production until sometime next year. And they are still selling 1-2 year old cars at or above original MSRP. Its still a crazy market and even though rates are going up, supply is not. Maybe demand slows down but according to my SA, it has not yet.
