Add another 2017 991.2 Carrera to this list. Fires up and immediately loses fuel supply. Dealership says VTS needs to be r&r… and says there is a new module available. Did my CPO just pay for itself?

Just curious but to those who are affected by this, are any of you running tunes on your car? I know this issue may not correlate but just wanted to know. Thanks!

Again, why is this issue suddenly flaring up and ONLY on .2 cars?

This hasn't been a failure that's been spread over months or a year, this is a heavily concentrated one to two weeks.

I have opted not to have the recall performed, as my car has zero squeaks or rattles. Porsche needs to get its crap together and address this issue asap. My heart goes out to the OP and others who have had this issue.
FYI.

The recall on their dime was only offered to active Car Connect subscribers. Others had to pay for the update.

Wasn't available to me, after subscribing to Connect for 3 years and not renewing due to the lack of info on any 3g sunset solution, I fell into the the pay list. Haven't had it done, I'm not paying for Porsche lack of foresight or dismantling of my dash. Though if the disabling glitch happens what option do we have?

This issue needs to be made into a comprehensive recall if it keeps growing.

Two threads on this. I wrote in the other thread, does the VTS communicate using the 3g system? Now that 3g is mostly shut down, if the VTS can't communicate is it triggering the shutdown? This really sucks as I drive my car all the time and now have to worry about a non-start condition.

Curious to know whether or not any of the people who have this issue are subscribed to the car connect stuff and have had the 4g update performed since September.

Agreed - curious if there’s a common denominator.

It won't have anything to do with tunes. My guess is, after your local 3G service is shut down, the system starts a 30-day timer or something along those lines. If it goes 30 days without being able to contact the mothership, it disables the vehicle.

At first blush this has 'class action' written all over it, like other situations in which negligent engineering at Porsche has left their customers holding a very expensive bag. They will counter by saying, "Well, we didn't promise your car would keep running after its warranty expired," and unfortunately they'll have a point. That's why I'm so interested in understanding what that document means by 2010 and later models.

Nope, not subscribed to car connect, and have not had any 4g update performed. Car is also completely stock.

My thoughts exactly Noah. Is this the tip of an iceberg of parked 911s? I hope not

I highly, highly doubt this is the case. One of the members here literally went for a drive and it happened after he got home -- signal must have been hit during that drive. The 30 day thing didn't occur to me, but that would be a (semi-)graceful way of dealing with people who park underground. Doesn't help for vehicle storage, and it doesn't help for disconnecting a battery for an extended period of time either.

I'm almost certain VTS doesn't call home as it was alluded to earlier in the thread, nor does it care about even getting a cell signal unless you have an active subscription. Even then I doubt it would disable the car, as that's a very major environmental factor outside the control of Porsche that effectively bricks the vehicle.

Deep in Zuffenhausen Porsche is secretly building dozens of 3G trunks bound for dealers worldwide to fix all the 991.2’s about to be garage decorations.

One point that is being brought up is a "timer" for vehicle inactivity that triggers an attempt to contact by the VTS, that if unsuccessful bricks the car.

So as long as the car is not parked longer than this time period it will avoid the shutdown.

Have the owners of the cars that have shut down have extended parked periods?

Curious to see if they did.
