Ive read this a few times
slowly. (BTW, I also go to Porsche North Scottsdale.). I defiantly do not and have never had this service on my 2019 December build C2S. Would this car have the same VTS that could cripple the car? Almost too funny
my other one does have the IMS.

I believe most all vehicles manufactured after 2010 have VTS installed. There are plenty of articles online regarding the subject. So activated or not by the end user, the system is working and sending data to the manufacturers. If this system disables your car because it's faulty, they should pay for it to be restored even if no longer under warranty, as they get the benefits from the data they receive from your car. It was preinstalled just for that purpose. The idea that it can disable the vehicle if stolen is superfluous, at least to the manufacturers. The VTS isn't really there for that as it's primary purpose. It's there to collect data for manufacturers and .........

VTS is present in every new car and probably has been since 2010, as I stated. The mere fact that VTS cannot be disabled via programming and the car is bricked if it's not working, tells me this is a valuable component to them and they don't want anyone driving around without it. Old analog vehicles are obviously the exception. Now if you're referring to the "them" part, well ................ lol

Meant wont start issue - not sure where DNR popped in.
I have a 991.2 Targa4S which yesterday ceased running. Starts for 1 second and immediately shuts down. I had it towed and local Porsche service center ran code reader on it. Its showing a VTS, Restart Inhibit and VTS, authentication error. Codes are 80530F and 805108 respectively. Dealer service dept is telling me that they believe the Vehicle Tracking System unit has failed and the units are not currently available even out of Germany. Have pulled battery cables off and reconnected with no resolution. At this point they are counseling me to tow the car home, put it in the garage and cross my fingers that they can source a replacement VTS unit - they wont even speculate on timing. This is all too crazy. Anyone have any thoughts?

The part number may be available, but I'm willing to bet you cannot obtain one via conventional sources. It's like a blackbox on a jet. It's also why it's buried deep behind the dash. They don't want anyone messing with it.

Per the 991.2 parts catalogue it's 9A7 637 620 10, and parts interchange seems pretty wide here. You can order one from the usual suspects.
Cost is 700-900 dollars for the part, then you'll need to have it coded to the car. It's a pretty dealership-specific operation due to the antitheft aspect of it.

Ive yet to see a .1 failure. Im not so sure that we have the same one as a .2. That would make sense because there are no failures known in the .1 cars and theyve been out for more years so logic would lead me to believe failures would show up in the previous gen first

This VTS black box is the recall that PCNA issues back in December. Come in to the Dealership, we'll tear your dash apart so you can now have 4G rather than the outdated 3G we idiotically put in your cars back in 2017-2019. I have opted not to have the recall performed, as my car has zero squeaks or rattles. Porsche needs to get its crap together and address this issue asap. My heart goes out to the OP and others who have had this issue.
