I read this thread and learnt few things. One of them is that asellus is a pompous ******* who is full of it.

You can certainly have an opinion but make sure you spell “pompous” correctly.

No, it should not, although it appears it has been your agenda for reasons unknown (in addition to trolling).

As owners of these cars we really should be interested in understanding the issue and find a way to bypass/eliminate this device. For privacy and reliability reasons.

Apparently this is how the VTS device antenna looks like. Wondering where it is located?

Let's recap:
- Porsche isn't remotely bricking your car.
- You are not interesting enough to monitor.
- This is not planned obsolescence.
- The sunset is not the cause of the half dozen failures.

If you want to post conspiracy theory nonsense, please find the off topic forum. If you have any technical insight you would like to share on the VTS module, by all means, do an info dump.

I'm not excited to see this thread revived if all it's going to be is lunatics ranting about how Porsche is monitoring how much milk they buy.

not to say you aren't allowed to have this conversation. you totally are! just do it over in the Off Topic forum, this forum is for technical discussion on the 991 platform.

Not seeing this as part of the 991. I do see the GSM aerial listed as 9A7 035 504 00. It appears to be located at the base of the windshield, under the dashboard, on the driver side of the car -- makes sense, as dash removal is required to do the update!

Part 31 here:

Engaging with you likely will be akin to a pissing contest with a skunk but let's give it a go (there is always hope for everyone).

Not enough information whether it was the case in these failures or not, but it is completely irrelevant.

What is relevant is that the remote kill switch functionality is present and that remote data collection can occur. There is no evidence that is occurring, but again this is not relevant. Likewise, there is no evidence this functionality is dormant and cannot be activated.

- You are not interesting enough to monitor.
Actually wrong. Insurance companies are actively interested in using this information to determine your policy pricing. This is being actively worked on - in many states this is not allowed due to regulations, but already this is allowed in most states. Many insurance companies offer mobile phone based (and/or dongle based) tracking. Right now this is opt-in, but this will change. I know this 1st hand. Don't ask how, I won't tell you.

- This is not planned obsolescence.
Agreed.

- The sunset is not the cause of the half dozen failures.
Indeed does not look like, but completely irrelevant.

Nothing to do with conspiracy. If you had a slightest clue about the mobile telematics business, you would have known this data is valuable, it is being collected, it is being sold already, and there are many businesses looking to use this data more and more, and particularly insurance companies.

This statement indicates you are one or more of the following: (1) ignorant, (2) troll, (3) have a hidden agenda. Frankly, I don't care, just get out of the way of people wanting to find out more what their cars are doing and modify them if so desired for the purpose of privacy and/or reliability.

For anyone whose VTS died, and it disabled your car. According to this TSB, the VTS can be disabled. A bit late for those who paid for a new VTS... but maybe it will help someone in the future.
