Unbelievable: Rear-ended 5 days after taking delivery of my 991 S Cabriolet
#16
sounds like it's just the rear bumper and no metal? if so, don't sweat it, annoying of course. but bumper refinishing isn't a big deal and doesn't really matter to anyone buying a car. it's pretty standard/common with age for things like rock chips. as long as it's not metal and anything else like bumper support that's behind the bumper cover and you can forget 95% of your pain. good luck.

Sorry to hear of this, but unfortunately there are all too many distracted or otherwise crappy drivers around these days. I also would recommend Einer's Garage. He has a nice shop and lots of experience. I'm sure he would help get you through this with as little pain as possible. I would also go the non-insurance route, although I'm a bit skeptical the young lady or her family will step up and make it right.....just my pessimistic side coming out. I hope I'm wrong and you come back with a great ending to this unfortunate incident.
Good luck!!

If it was me, for a parking lot fender bender, I'd probably just fix out of my own pocket instead of going through insurance - for my own benefits.
Any saving will be negated by the record on the carfax when it comes time to sell the car. For a niche car like the 911, I'd rather have a clean carfax.

OP, sorry to hear. What a mess, especially when it happens to a new member of the family.

A little off topic but my recent experience in a 5 month search for a car has gone south to a point wife thinks its a "sign" that I don't get one. I want to augment my two p cars and a MB Sedan with a convertible. Older Euro model in good shape OK because it will be lightly driven. Months long searches, car one on the way to pay for it, owner says transmission wouldn't get out of park, bailed, search went on, car 2 ready to sign, did a PPI and found oil leaks- bail, car 3 checked all the boxes, shipped in with Carvana, off the truck and AC not working, PPI showed faults on most modules, bail ,got money back, car 4 at a dealer pictures did no justice to the terrible abuse the car went through, bail, car 5 shipped in from an out of state Autonation dealer to one close by, another all boxes checked, on the way to pay for it, got a call from the sales lady, while in detail someone backed into the drivers door so it needs repair. bail.Got deposit back. Wife says give it a rest , its a sign. I replied, let's not get religious about this. So now I have to retreat to another room to continue the search in secret.

Poor girl, crying and all. I’m sure you were nice to her but she must be held accountable.

Sorry to hear about your accident, at least no one was hurt. Before you get that bumper repaired, you might want to read through this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/7603...r-job-huh.html
There's a lot of expensive stuff in the rear ends of our cars, so it might be worth it in the long run to have a Porsche certified collision repair facility take a look first.

spot on imho. if she didn't get caught, i'd wager she'd be telling the story to her pals with some laughs and giggles.

That really blows.
Life is giving you a lemon. But sounds like you are taking it in stride. It’s not what happens to us, as much as how we react, that defines our character.
Always remember this: your biggest failure and regret with your toys and pleasure in life for the things that you want was likely going to be never getting that 911 back in your life. But that’s not you. You’ve got your 911, so good for you. Let’s hope and cross fingers for a simple and easy/cheap repair!

Justice is a joke... I once saw a guy hit my wife's parked car and run.. I had just enough time to snap a picture and ID the car... The cops came, and said "yeah, the plate resolves to that car and color so you are likely correct, but since we didn't catch him on the spot, we can't prove the guy was at the wheel". Nice! Apparently only honest people worry about hit and runs anymore. It's easier to let it go, but I would try to pursue the hit and run angle anyway just on principle...

Thanks for the comments and empathy, everyone. I really do appreciate it. I have been pretty down about the whole thing. I think I’m going to get an estimate, talk to the girl about the repair costs, and see if she can pay out of pocket. I’d rather this not show up on Carfax, especially since it’s just a fender bender. But hell, everything is on the table, I suppose. What a bummer.
