sounds like it's just the rear bumper and no metal? if so, don't sweat it, annoying of course. but bumper refinishing isn't a big deal and doesn't really matter to anyone buying a car. it's pretty standard/common with age for things like rock chips. as long as it's not metal and anything else like bumper support that's behind the bumper cover and you can forget 95% of your pain. good luck.

Default Lots of stuff in back

Be careful thinking it's only the cover very little impact can cause tens of thousands. Have porsche certified shop pull bumper cover off.

Take pics of the original damage before repair. If and when you decide to sell your car buyer will be able to confirm minimal damage occurred.

Sorry to hear of this, but unfortunately there are all too many distracted or otherwise crappy drivers around these days. I also would recommend Einer's Garage. He has a nice shop and lots of experience. I'm sure he would help get you through this with as little pain as possible. I would also go the non-insurance route, although I'm a bit skeptical the young lady or her family will step up and make it right.....just my pessimistic side coming out. I hope I'm wrong and you come back with a great ending to this unfortunate incident.

Good luck!!

I agree with that. The depreciation and red flag on the carfax will always haunt us later. However, if the cops were called then it's already too late, insurance claim or not. Unfortunately carfax goes off of police reports as well.

OP, sorry to hear. What a mess, especially when it happens to a new member of the family.

The only reason she was crying is because you caught her, so save the crocodile tears.
I hope she got ticketed up the wazoo..

The hit and run crowd are the scum of the earth. - no excuses.

A little off topic but my recent experience in a 5 month search for a car has gone south to a point wife thinks its a "sign" that I don't get one. I want to augment my two p cars and a MB Sedan with a convertible. Older Euro model in good shape OK because it will be lightly driven. Months long searches, car one on the way to pay for it, owner says transmission wouldn't get out of park, bailed, search went on, car 2 ready to sign, did a PPI and found oil leaks- bail, car 3 checked all the boxes, shipped in with Carvana, off the truck and AC not working, PPI showed faults on most modules, bail ,got money back, car 4 at a dealer pictures did no justice to the terrible abuse the car went through, bail, car 5 shipped in from an out of state Autonation dealer to one close by, another all boxes checked, on the way to pay for it, got a call from the sales lady, while in detail someone backed into the drivers door so it needs repair. bail.Got deposit back. Wife says give it a rest , its a sign. I replied, let's not get religious about this. So now I have to retreat to another room to continue the search in secret.

I don’t know. I didn’t read (yet) that there was a LEO involved but assuming there was, the accident is already on record. I don’t think I saw any pictures but given the cost (and deductible) I’d call the insurance and also work the depreciated asset approach as well. That’s what they are for.

Poor girl, crying and all. I’m sure you were nice to her but she must be held accountable.

Sorry to hear about your accident, at least no one was hurt. Before you get that bumper repaired, you might want to read through this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/7603...r-job-huh.html

There's a lot of expensive stuff in the rear ends of our cars, so it might be worth it in the long run to have a Porsche certified collision repair facility take a look first.

spot on imho. if she didn't get caught, i'd wager she'd be telling the story to her pals with some laughs and giggles.

That really blows.

Life is giving you a lemon. But sounds like you are taking it in stride. It’s not what happens to us, as much as how we react, that defines our character.

Always remember this: your biggest failure and regret with your toys and pleasure in life for the things that you want was likely going to be never getting that 911 back in your life. But that’s not you. You’ve got your 911, so good for you. Let’s hope and cross fingers for a simple and easy/cheap repair!

Justice is a joke... I once saw a guy hit my wife's parked car and run.. I had just enough time to snap a picture and ID the car... The cops came, and said "yeah, the plate resolves to that car and color so you are likely correct, but since we didn't catch him on the spot, we can't prove the guy was at the wheel". Nice! Apparently only honest people worry about hit and runs anymore. It's easier to let it go, but I would try to pursue the hit and run angle anyway just on principle...

Get it fixed at a proper shop - you won't believe how much the cost can add up. Also if allowed in your state go for diminished value. you can pm me.

But hell, everything is on the table, I suppose. What a bummer.
Just document all the damage and the proper repair were done and you should be fine. Also you may be able to get a diminished value claim but that would probably be a long shot. Lastly and I don’t want to scare you but I’ve seen a few cases where a little rear hit on one of these cars caused real damage to the car behind the bumper so make sure they properly check out any damage behind the bumper.
