First, the 8201 is the most current, up to date version from Pioneer, so you did get the latest model. They failed to update the banner on the rim of the display, so mine shows "8200" also.

I am a definitely a snob when it comes to audio sound quality and I have never felt Bose products (except their noise cancelling headphones!) offered anything but Kmart audio level sound. that's my problem/bias and I own it. I decided to go all out for the audio upgrade. I had Dynamat sound proofing installed throughout the entire interior to reduce road noise and some of the engine audio overhead. After removing all the Bose amps & speakers I used a multichannel JL Audio amp and focal speakers to replace the stock components.
