Saw a convertible 996 the other day driving in my same direction. I kept looking over to see if he would give me a nod or something but he seemed too self important to care what was going on around him. He kept accelerating from 10-40 mph just to hear the sound of his obviously modified exhaust. I just had to shake my head and leave him in the dust to the sound of my Sport mode farts.

Back in the day, the traditional exchange was a quick double blink of the light horn. Most 911's used to do it.. I still do it from habit....

My wife asked me why I didn't wave the other day - I was in a Panamera loaner and the other vehicle was a Macan - I'm usually pretty good with waving to other Porsche owners regardless of model - (and for sure 911's) - Macans are definitely on the periphery of the 'wave' and less likely to reciprocate but I still (usually) do it. Obviously, my wife caught me out on that day.
When I first got the 911 - it was an adjustment for her to see me waving - and questioned me, if that was really a 'thing'.

Way back when... in the olden days... when I came to CA and bought my first Porsche- a ‘66 912... you ALWAYS waved if you saw another 911/912 or 356... and while there were more P-cars in So Cal than anywhere else in the US, still- there were not that many... and you could go days without seeing another one... the relative rarity of these cars produced a camaraderie that was deeper than just waves... I remember once being in Beverly Hills looking for a parking spot and seeing a gorgeous silver 911 just pulling out to the street... the driver saw me in his rear view and stopped for a moment, motioned me to pull ahead and take his spot... we smiled at each other, waved and even saluted... his name was Paul Newman...

I wave only to Cayenne drivers just to confuse them.
Lot's of confused housewives.

Rarely will anyone wave at me as 911's are very common. Occasionally I will get one and sometimes there will be some mutual admiration though. On motorcycles, almost always a "low hand" wave unless they are "cool" bikers in an MC.

I wave every time! I also will give a cayenne gts/turbo owner a wave because its my experience that its not their only Porsche when they go for one of those models. Or at least not their first.
