This is the way it works. This was explained to me by a boss of mine while riding with him on his yacht. I waived at a bigger yacht and got no response. He explained that you never waive down. SO

If you are in a gt3 and a c4s waives, you ignore them. If you are in a 918 and a gt3 driver waives you ignore. I drive a base so I waive at all and nobody responds. I accept my lowly estate.

I'm not sure why I waved actually, but I just thought of doing it, sort of like what Wrangler drivers do. So I came back to see if there is a proper Porsche wave, and there doesn't seem to be any consensus, but many articles seem to indicate there used to be, but now it's dead. So, is there still a 911 wave of some sort, or is it pretty much dead? Do any of you wave when you see a 911 passing? This was the only 911 I had ever passed (in three months of ownership now) while driving my 911, so I'm not sure.

Maybe people are just too rushed to look around while driving, or they just don't do it. I know when I drive, I notice anything that's not vanilla (i.e. Camry, Accord, Passat) going by or coming from behind. So I'd know if someone waved to me.

Just a sad thought if we don't have our little group "thing" that we do...
My experience is about 50%. Enthusiasts and most lady drivers will return a wave. My demographic of older male drivers do not tend to return wave unless they are enthusiasts which you can tell by sound and mods.

I hate it when you spot a pcar coming and just as you wave, you realize it's a mitsubishi or a tesla.

I'm a waver and get good response from aircooleds around here

Yep. There are too many Porsches in my town (Chicagoland) to warrant a wave.

I can usually kind of tell who is going to wave at me/wave back. Some folks driving 911s/718s aren't enthusiasts, and some are. You can kind of tell if they are checking out your car or not.

I usually get a wave/wave back from 1 in 3 here in Santa Barbara. There's actually a pretty large enthusiast crew, although a lot have 60s and 70s 911s. All the 992s in town that I've seen are non-wavers.

I am in month 5 of ownership and still haven’t seen another 911 on the road. Charlotte is not that small. Still surprised there are no 911’s around here!

911s are still made in relatively small numbers compared to everything else, I’m in Orange County Southern California, and there are times I don’t see a 911 for days. I always double flash lights or wave at all Porsches, SUV pCar drivers many times don’t know what’s up, 911 drivers are about 95%.

I agree, the P-car wave is not dead but not as consistent as it once was. And probably since enthusiasts no longer make up 100% of the drivers.

Rarely, when driving my 991 C4S do I get a wave back from another 911 driver in Chicagoland. And when I drive my 2 door Jeep Wrangler, it's now only about 50% of the time do I get the Jeep wave. Usually, an Italian or German motorcyclist will acknowledge though. I had a Ducati come to pass me, and went along side of me to do just that. I believe, like others here, if you are an enthusiast, there will be a mutual acknowledgement of some gesture.

Around here, in the city, most of the time other drivers don’t even look over. Today I drove out to the burbs and 2 out of the 3 Porsche drivers gave me a wave.

Same here in SoCal. My wrists would get fatigued if I waived at every Porsche.
