Default Is the 911 Wave Dead

I don't see too many 911 while I'm driving my 911, but yesterday I passed a 996 911 coming the other way and I waved, but I got nothing back. I'm not sure why I waved actually, but I just thought of doing it, sort of like what Wrangler drivers do. So I came back to see if there is a proper Porsche wave, and there doesn't seem to be any consensus, but many articles seem to indicate there used to be, but now it's dead. So, is there still a 911 wave of some sort, or is it pretty much dead? Do any of you wave when you see a 911 passing? This was the only 911 I had ever passed (in three months of ownership now) while driving my 911, so I'm not sure.

Maybe people are just too rushed to look around while driving, or they just don't do it. I know when I drive, I notice anything that's not vanilla (i.e. Camry, Accord, Passat) going by or coming from behind. So I'd know if someone waved to me.

Just a sad thought if we don't have our little group "thing" that we do...

I subjectively divide 911 owners into sports car enthusiasts and status car enthusiasts. I think it's the sports car enthusiasts who wave. The status car enthusiasts are too busy feeling important to wave

it's definitely not dead, i just did one the other day while driving the 991 and got the wave back from another 991.

air-cooled 911s to air-cooled 911 waves are almost a guarantee.

my guess is the 996 guy was sick of getting snubbed by every other 911 owner, because 996, and just doesn't do it.

It is not dead. I wave to every Porsche sports car and they always wave back. On the very rare instance of an unreciprocated wave, I presume the other driver is either not paying attention or a non enthusiast who doesn't know. But those are very rare. Keep waving!

I always wave to other 911s, boxsters and caymans. Sometimes I get a reply, sometimes I don't. I quietly swear at the people who don't reply 😂.

Thank guys (gals), you give me hope that we still have an inner family thing... even if some family members are zombies. This was my first time, so I just had to ask to see if it's still a thing.
I'll continue waving... but I don't see other 911 much so my returns on waving may be slim.

I always wave to other 911, Boxster/Cayman owners. The vast majority of times, I don't get a wave back.
If you see me...wave back

Subjectively, maybe about 70-80% of the time, when I do a quick flash of the headlights to another 911 or Cayman they respond. Even happened with a Macan once!

I suppose it depends where you drive - I wouldn't be doing this on the freeway or in suburban neighborhoods, but if you encounter another sports car on a backroad chances are they're there for the same reason as you...

If you are driving along a county road early in the morning, definitely waves and light flashes. Otherwise, during normal daytime traffic, no much so

Likewise, if I'm driving with the purpose of fun, and run into someone else who's doing the same... they're def getting an enthusiastic wave, else probably an ever so slight movement of the head at best

I think you're right on the money. I do literally give a thumbs up for any nice car that I see. First and foremost, I'm an auto enthusiast that likes many different cars. If they perform, they perform.

Not dead here. I throw the peace sign. Get lots of waves from kids. Kids like the car. Raising the spoiler at light seems to make people smile that are behind me at checking out the car.
Keep the wave going.

Every. Single. Time.

I may not get a wave or light flash back, but I do it.

It’s rare to get a wave in my area and I’m not sure I’ve ever received one from another Porsche driver. But I’ll get the “wave” from most Wrangler drivers when I’m driving the Wrangler and I return the gesture.
