When I had my Corvette, I would say 9/10 times I would get a wave from other vettes

Now in my 911, I'd say 1/10 times I get a wave from other 911s

It is what it is

And with that said...i took another drive just through town, spotted a 992 driving by, waved and got a fingers lift off the steering wheel. I'll take that...so 1 for 2, batting .500

I still do it as well. Depends on the person. If they're an enthusiast, I think they'll wave.

Got my first P car, a 911, one month ago. Didn't know waving was a thing in these cars. I have seen a few wave at me (maybe 1 in 5-10). Will start doing it! When I was a kid on a road trip in my parent's VW Beetle, we'd wave at all the other Beetles. Will be like old times!

I prefer a subtle nod of acknowledgment. Just so they know that I know that we know what's up.

TBH, where I live Porsches are rare.

However, random people will say “hello” and “nice car”.

Always say thank you or give them a thumbs up.

Many common courtesies from before are dead or dying. Sign of the times.

I suppose it depends where you drive - I wouldn't be doing this on the freeway or in suburban neighborhoods, but if you encounter another sports car on a backroad chances are they're there for the same reason as you...
I do a wave and a quick flash of the headlights to every Porsche I see. SUV rate of return wave or flash is about 50%. 911 rate of return is near 100%. Air cooled 911 wave is always 100%.
I have started to do the same for mini coopers and have been pleasantly surprised with >50% return.

Keep the wave going.
That’s a great idea. I’m going to try that.

I'm glad this is a thing. I'm still relatively new to the Porsche community and I was waiving instinctively. I missed a wave yesterday but my wife caught it. Teamwork.

I wave and flash at all Porsche sports cars, but not the SUV's.

I guess my question is should I be waving in my Panamera Turbo?

I don’t think there’s any situation where waving at another Porsche can be faulted regardless of model. It might get exhausting with Macan’s but still a nice gesture.

The only thing I’d be critical of, is if you fail to return a wave.

Porsches (911+ay/box) are pretty rare where I am, and virtually nonexistent in the winter, but I try to always wave. Most respond, if the haven't already initiated.

Sometimes, though, if I don't notice an oncoming P car in time (twisty roads), I can't get my hand up in time, and feel real bad. It's harder if you keep your hands at 3 and 9 o'clock like you're supposed to, and have MT!
