Default 991.2 installing BMC air filter and Tial inlet pipes

With everything going on, I figured it’s a good time to social distance myself in the garage . In process of installing the bmc filter and tial inlets on my Carrera t. For me, I picked up my filter on eBay and the inlets can be purchased through various vendors such as @SamboTT@ByDesign. You can also pick them up via boostaddict. Keep in mind there is a wait as stock seems to be low. Hoping for some decent gains from the inlets-filter was one of those “while I’m in there” mods. To start, you
need to remove the bumper, tails and spoiler. The guide from Cobb was helpful here so I won’t get into details:

Spoiler, tails and bumper removed.

Also, I will be doing this install little by little over the next week or so, so please bear with me for updates. I do have a lift in my garage, however it is not necessary to get this done. You will have to pull the rear wheels and set the car on stands to do the inlets and possibly remove the bumper.

Inter cooler air guides and factory y pipe removed. Y pipe was a bit of a pain-I pulled the hoses from the inter cooler end tanks and then the throttle body hose. There are various connections to remove off the y pipe closer to the throttle body. Take your time and don’t break anything.

This comment from @Arin@APR sold me on the tial inlets:

No need to buy a plenum at these power levels for the track. It does not make any difference besides a small bump in tq in low rpm that your car will never be at on the track. Not worth the money at these flow levels the car is able to produce. That may be a different story with larger Turbochargers but it is not a restriction on a tuned car. Intake inlets I would absolutely do, and the Tial intakes are a great piece all around. Fit and finish, flow, performance etc. they are great. Just bolting these on with our calibration the car increased the the turbo inlet pressure by 20-25mb at the compressor which is huge improvement in compressor efficiency. This led to the EMAP decreasing by 200 mb, Compressor outlet temps decreasing by 10C+ which helps with reducing the intercooler heat soak as you asked about.
Another thing I may suggest for track days is some type of water injection setup. This should help stabilize and decrease your IAT. A lot of cars use something like this from the GT2RS to the BMW M3. It is really a great way to help improve the performance of the car and more and more factory cars are starting to get this option.

I am impressed. Personally I wouldn't have the ***** to undertake this, but I am anxiously watching this thread.
I have always wanted to do the inlets as I think its a great mod and a restriction that is easily overcome by aftermarket inlets.
I also have said for years not that the plenum does absolutely nothing and isnt worth the time it takes to install or the cost to replace the factory plenum.

I changed the air filter as well and I cannot tell you if it did anything, but testing did show that it flowed better than factory and trapped as much or more debris so I figured why not.

Nice work! The bumper removal just seems like so much work to swap a filter, but I'm sure it goes quick after a couple of times.

Thanks more to come. The intercooler cage has to be removed to pull the inlet tubes. There is no way to do it with the cage in place as the factory tubes are mounted to the cage assembly.

Great job so far--looking forward to seeing the rest of your project.

And you discovered a built-in tool rack (photo 2)!

Needless to say, now would be a great time to upgrade the intercoolers and blow off valve if you were planning on doing so. For now, I am leaving those components as is.

Great job. I just received my Tial inlet tubes Friday and installed them Sunday. I'll post this on my DIY Turbo R&R thread.

Waiting for my Tial intake pipes and APR bypass valves to come in. Hopefully be here this week... Hopefully.. I am sticking with the OEM air filter for now..
Did you look inside your throttle body while it was apart? Curious if there was any carbon buildup on the throttle blade?

Just checked my throttle body/blade-super clean and not a lick of carbon on it!

Current state.

Controlled chaos. Hopefully I remember how to put it back together.
