I doubt that they're staying home, dealing with speeders at this point in time is way down on law enforcement's list of priorities.

Times like these increase the calls for service, plus they have to keep from becoming infected themselves, so as much as they can, they will use their lawful discretionary powers, while on-duty, to avoid unnecessary contact.

Another thing, one may not want to flaunt the law by doing triple digits in front of an officer that may be already over-stressed, be smart.

It's such a dilemma though, we complain about traffic, then suddenly on a big quiet road it feels like a trap!

If you ever get pulled over, a couple quick coughs and you will be back on your way in no time!

I can not comment on the mentality of the police right now but I can confirm there is no one on the roads in places including patrols. I rarely/never get to 'test' my car because there are just too many clueless people on the hiway... on an empty hiway this week -where I am familiar with every bump and pothole- I was thrilled to really test the car

NOTE: it occurred to me that with so few people Waze police warnings are also probably not very timely so be careful.

I have been driving pretty darn fast lately. On the ring road in Calgary yesterday I was comfortable at 150 km/h with a 100 km/h speed limit (in my Golf R, my 911 is back on the road next week). There were other cars, but very few - when you have 3 or 4 lanes to play with and only a couple of cars, it's pretty safe to go fast for sure.

One upside to the empty roads is it's easier to watch for cops and adjust accordingly. That said I haven't noticed much of a police presence.

Is anyone worried about the perception of driving a nice car in the current environment? We're getting hammered from every possible angle right now - our health, our economy, our freedom. It's pretty scary for the average person and if the unemployment rate hits 20% as many of us believe it will, you've got to think there are going to be a lot of salty people out there.

I am not currently worried but then again, I did not go panic buying toilet paper. In the next month or so I will probably think twice about where I park as I could see folks keying nice cars in frustration.

personally now is not the time to take risks on the roads. you don't want to be in a hospital or send anyone to one. drive safe.

exactly my thought. had to run to the pharmacy today and took the macan instead of the 911 intentionally for that reason.

One of us taking up a hospital bed due to a recreational driving accident could mean a COVID patient doesn't get one. That's harsh, but it crossed my mind when I went out recently, so i didn't push it. (Note - I realize that driving safely and exceeding the speed limit are not mutually exclusive)

Thanks for the input. I never planned on exceeding triple digits but on drive down in early March I noticed that the average speed on the interstates for nearly everybody was 80.
