Default Speeding and Covid-19

Just wondering with the fear of Covid-19, will the highway patrol be more lenient in speed limits. Next week I'm going to drive from Tampa to Chicago and will I be able to set a new for me land speed record? I'll be driving a Mercedes not my 911.

i got pulled over going 107 and the CHP let me go yesterday. i was blown away. he jammed right up on me from behind and before he even put on his lights i threw up my hand and pulled over. he was like “dude. what are you doing?” i said “i am totally 100% in the wrong i’m sorry officer” and he said “this thing is sweet. how long have you had it?” i said “a week” and he was like “yeah I don’t blame you, just use your head. i appreciate the honesty”

This is taken on the NJ turnpike close to NYC about 45 min ago - it’s a ghost town! No cops on the highways anywhere

I just drove from LA to San Francisco, CHP were pulling over speeders (i saw mostly sports cars). If anything they are more bored with fewer cars on the road and you will stick out a lot more. The plus is that your radar detector maybe more effective with fewer cars on the road?

I wouldn't be surprised if enforcement in lockdown areas is a lot stricter; aside from less cars to blend in with, it seems "non-essential" travel in your car is being deliberately discouraged or prohibited... states/municipalities want to free up ER beds otherwise used to treat car crash victims for COVID patients.

Although you could claim you are on the way to buy some medicine for Timmy, it's a lot less credible in a sports car going over the speed limit on a back-road

Despite a very strong temptation to take advantage of empty roads even for just a nice legal drive (I live in an area that's 24/7 traffic hell normally, a quiet cruise on empty roads sound like paradise) I don't plan on going out for a drive until this virus is contained.

This is why Italy even banned bike riding, they don't want to deal with injured cyclist. Pro-riders are exempt though as it's their job to ride.

Just drove down Pleasant Valley Way to Short Hills via West Orange, still lots of cars and people near Turtle Back Zoo.

that may a problem in places like Virginia where over 85mph is a Misdemeanor.

...courts closed, you get arrested and you may just spend time in the gray bar hotel until a judge can be found.

I have the 3 day Porsche PTX in Birmingham for the week of May 10th, I won't be flying for sure, so driving there will be the plan. Hopefully, the virus will be be on the downside, flat end of the curve, by then.

Will decide which vehicle I'll take as the date gets closer.

Just because there's less traffic doesn't make it easier to go faster, I use traffic as cover whenever I can. My detector may work better, but Waze alerts will surely not be as numerous or timely with less vehicles.

You might try for a record now, before some governor decides to impose a 30 mph state-wide speed limit. To slow down the spread, of course.

Traffic on I-95 was light yesterday afternoon and I was passed numerous times going triple digits while I was doing the same and I never saw a cop once in an about an hour going north & south.
