NICE.

Might want to put some clear on the front. VW paint chips easily.

I have a Golf R, and after almost 4 years of winter abuse I can say that wrapping the entire front end was well worth it. Front bumper, fenders, complete hood, mirrors and I even did a strip on the front of the roof + the rear bumper. Almost should have wrapped the whole car at that point

Spending $1k+ for paint correction and PPF sort of defeats the point of a "beater"...

I just looked and our GTI has no rock chips after nearly 16k miles, and two years. Wash it once in a while, buy touch-up paint, and enjoy not caring about it so much.

One of my favorite cars was an old Corolla my wife inherited from her parents; it was our "city car". It had been in a major accident, had door dings, minor scratches, etc., but was fine mechanically. Not caring about parking, door dings, scratches, rock chips, bird poop, etc. is liberating if you otherwise obsess over an expensive car.

Looks like he got the S with the lighting package (not sure if that’s standard now. It was an option on 17-18’s)...so he’s got LEDs.

Enjoy! Looks great!

I'd get the more posh VW with the Sunroof in NE. It's going to be a daily driver. I've had sunroofs since the 1970s, and never had sunroof rattles.

And id put real winter tires on it each winter ❄️🌨️, and switch back to Summer tires 🌼 May thru Oct 🌳

Been there and done that with my Porsche in the garage while working and driving my VW's in Northern IL and in WI. Really enjoyed doing it that way. It makes both cars feel special.

"🎼🎵🎶That's the way to do it! 🎶 " 👍

Two significant stains from the kids, one from a watery puke, the other from an "accident" (urine). Plus the dog hair & slobber was much more difficlut to clean than with the leather.

Congratulations on the purchase. You will not be disappointed. Two weeks ago my grad school bound daughter (UChicago) moved into a high rise with $250/month car parking. At that point she decided to drive her 2012 GTI home for me to sell. The only problem is that I've really started to enjoy driving it! It's a white four door with a tartan cloth interior and DSG transmission. Good shape and runs well. Seems like a waste to let it go so I may drive it for a couple years and surprise her with it as (another) graduation gift!

Those are definitely halogen headlights.

These are the LED's.

Can confirm. Those are the LEDs. Mine has the halogens.

But as an aside...who knew a GTI thread on the 991 forum would have such legs? Seems like there's a crazy amount of overlap between Rennlisters/Porsche drivers and GTI aficionados. Who knew?

Well. picking up my modest little dim-headlighted, tartan-clad, stain-prone S tomorrow. Will then invite my dog in the back (got the seat covers), my son in front, and go for a ride. I'll also be sure to post some pics to marvel at how enthusiastic this crowd is for the little 4-banger.

Thanks for all the input. All good and helpful POVs on the journey to a new DD.

Weird...my halogens didn’t look anything like that so I assumed they were a new unadorned version of the led’s (without the accents).

Now put a JB4 on it and hoon around with the family! Smiles for miles!!!

Have fun!

I agree with this 100%. It's INTENSE driving nice cars in such a brutal, hostile city environment and I really dig the size of my Golf. I don't have an R or a GTI etc... just a basic white, 2-door, Mark VI, with it's MT and inline 5 NA'd engine (1/2 a Lamgo V10!), nice Recaro seats with a perfect leather steering wheel. There's so much to like about this guy that I keep passing on new eGolfs. It's calming to have a "beater" and a eGolf would be again, something very nice to have to worry about.
