That's the Chinese knock off like in my first post. There are a few tells now that I have studied them.

ECS has high quality photos of the OEM Genuine part to compare https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...p/00004400191/

I was able to source an OEM for $120. I know it is a total waste of money. It's a damn gas cap but I like it!

I think that Chinese cap will help you guys turn right. But, it might fight ya little on those left-handers. FYI.

What are the differences you are seeing? They look the same to me.

The details are subtle, and this is just from some observations, I could be wrong on some of it...

Genuine
1. No molded branding/symbol stamped on bottom
2. Date code stamped into bottom side that should close to date on label on box (OEM cap has this too)
3. Wire looking things around circumference on inside bottom
4. Box label on front/top of box inside of long side (unconfirmed)
5. Includes black decal about fuel (unconfirmed Chinese version does not have this, but not pictured in any ads)
6. Packaging, cap comes in bubble wrap pouch, other parts come in OEM style zip lock bag, knock off comes cap in sealed bag, tethers in sealed bag.

Personally I don't like this fake aluminium piece. Looks tacky IMO.

Do you feel the same about the silver interior trim inside the car?

Actually I do :-) There is very little I dislike more in modern cars than plastic painted to look like metal.

I don't get it. Porsche calls it "aluminum look," but it sure looks and feels like real aluminum to me.

If it was real aluminum you can bet they would say it!

I have one of the Chinese ebay versions if someone wants it. Doesn't fit my 997. $60 plus shipping and it's yours. You can save a few bucks and eliminate the shipping time from China.
Thanks
