Having one does make gassing up a different experience - kinda cool opening up the lid and seeing the aluminum cap.

I somehow doubt you would get a CEL. If I did not have one already, I'd give it a try for that price.

While we are on the subject, does anyone else know of anymore China made "OEM" parts for 991?

Anything and everything, Porsche spends alot of effort to shut down counterfeit parts and accessories but it is a never ending battle. China is not 3rd world manufacturing quality anymore.

I'm not sure if alot of you guys know, many of Porsche genuine parts, components, accessories are Made in China by their OEM suppliers, this includes all the fancy carbon bits found on the 2/3RS and they too are susceptible to quality control issues.

Ethics aside, alot of things are placebo (if someone put 2 parts of the same thing on the table without telling you which is genuine and which is OEM, you might be hard pressed to tell the difference), the quality coming out of China can be better than OEM (painted key shells are the best example). Don't forget, they are the manufacturing factory of the world.

So if it looks like metal, but is really plastic, that makes some people happy. OK.

The Chinese version adds another layer of fakery--kinda like their fake copycat cars.

The plastic may be better for me. I will probably some day drop it against the car. Plastic will be no problem but aluminum may nick the paint.

Plastic is lighter, so there’s weight savings there too! And either way, it still looks better than the black plastic one that came with the car...

It takes me like 10 extra valuable seconds to fuel-up, because I have to make sure the "PORSCHE" is properly oriented.

Maybe there is a way to retain the OEM base and just replace the decorative top (?)

Ya, I find it kind of funny. You wouldn't want a "fake", fake-aluminum gas cap. It's got to be a "real" fake!

I use a quick detailer (either Adams or Kenotek) on my real fake aluminum gas cap, to help resist fingerprints. FYI.

Do any of you guys open your gas filler door at Cars & Coffee events, or is that just a LexVan thang??

Yah on Track Days when I want to cut weight I remove my gas cap and just use a condom.
